OH NO My 1st complication, hopefully my last
Jun 22, 2009
My surgery went as planned and everything was great until Sunday afternoon. I started getting nauseous and didn't know why. I hadn't ate anything bad or done anything wrong. I took a nap and my pain increased on the left side. I called the doctor and he told me to go to the ER. I took a drink of water before I left for the ER and it sounded like a backed up sink. The water bubbled down my throat and just sat in my chest. It was crazy. When I got there the nurse kept asking me if I cheated and I was like he## no food is the last thing on my mind at this point. Anyway I started hurling all over the place and the doctor came in and ordered a CT scan. They discovered I had a hernia in my small intestine. It was kinked up inside one of the incisions they made from the bypass. I had to go back into surgery on Monday to fix the hernia. They stitched it up and they stitched the incision inside. I was out all last week, because the recovery from the hernia is worse than the gastric bypass. I'm still glad I had the surgery, but I'm a little upset that I had a complication already. Everyone at St. Alexius is super nice, they make sure you have pain meds and whatever else you need. I'm just ready to start losing now. I do find it hard to get in all the water and the 50 grams of protein a day, but I'm still working on all of it.
