My name is Susan and I had my RNY on Monday, August 6, 2012. One and half days after surgery I thought I was doing great, until the dry heaving started. Between all the anti naussea medicine and pain medicine things are a blur. But Wednesday, August 8 I had to have a CT done so they could insert a drain. Apparently I had swelling and the drain would help. Like I said, everything was a blur and I am not very good with details... LOL I was able to go home a few days later and I was exhausted!!! I slept all the time. Even now trying to remember all that happened to me is not easy to recollect. I do remember however the very early morning of Saturday, August 18. That was the morning I started to dry heave again and ended in the ER. I had to have another CT scan and wait for the doctor to call me. Apparently I had an obstruction so I had to have a second surgery later that afternoon. Apparently the drain just wasn't helping anymore. If anybody asks me about why 2 surgeries I tell them the doctor had to bypass my first bypass. But after my second surgery it was like night and day. I felt amazing!!! Of course I was very sore because of the 2 surgeries, but I just felt different then after the first one. I was able to go home a few days later and my recovery has been very smooth since then. I was able to cap the drain off before I left the hospital after the second surgery and the doctor removed it on September 4th. I am back to work and feeling wonderful. I have more energy and haven't been this weight in over 25 years. I started my journey weighing 246 lb. in January. My last appointment was September 20 and I weighed 187.
