"Overall the hospital is average. The best things were that the ICU and 6th floor day shift staff was mostly attentive and supportive. They told me that my surgeon insisted they attend a sensitivity seminar on how to treat WLS patients. Also, I had a bariatric bed(although, in a very small room) and a larger wheelchair was brought for me to leave the hospital. The bad things were that I was stuck 5 times by 3 different people to replace a second IV that I didn't really need. The MA left me on the toilet and left the room after only my 2nd time up. She didn't come back until my mom went to the nurses station. My last night in the hospital I had an MA who wouldn't help me at all. I couldn't find the control for the bed because I couldn't find my glasses and I had two IV's in my right hand. She just stood there. I had to ask her several times to help me. She then made me stay in the bathroom while she made up my bed at 3am. The next thing she did was empty my urine into the toilet and then fill my ice pitcher up. All without gloves or hand washing. Also, I was in a monitored bed but 3 out of 5 leads on my ekg monitor had come loose and were completely off early in the night and no one ever noticed until the day shift came on. This did motivate me to do whatever it took to go home the next day."
