3 Months Post-op

Nov 07, 2007

It's been 3 months since surgery and I'm down 63 pounds! I feel great! And, I had all of my heart/lung tests at University of CIncinnati recently and they all came back NORMAL! Yahoo! I've been released by the UC doc to work and had a great interview yesterday at a local hospital.

It's been almost two weeks & the only complaint I have after surgery is this nagging left side pain. I'm trying to walk it off every day. I have had no problem with dumping, diahrea (spelling?) or nausea. Knock on Wood! I see the surgeon on the 21st to weigh in and can't wait!

I'm moving back home to Ohio on the 24th ...

All the doc's have signed off on my WLS now - YAHOO! They are submitting it to the insurance company on Monday - now it's just hurry up and wait for Aetna's approval.

I lost 10 pounds this month & my BMI went down to 38 - amazing!

Ok – just hung up with the pulmonary doc’s office – the good news is he WILL sign off on my weight loss surgery. The results from the heart cath shows mild pulmonary hypertension – which is bad – but it’s not severe so thankfully, I’m not going to check out on life anytime soon.

The doc said losing weight would help the PH and the cardiologist also cleared me for surgery. I see the WLS on next Wed and he can turn in the paperwork to the insurance company then – and they might actually approve it sooner with all of my “co-morbidities” – the lung and heart pieces/parts being broken. Yahoo! Finally some good news!

Whew! Hopefully back on track!

Whew! Went to the cardiologist today and he schedled me for a stress test next week and I see the pulmonary guy next week. Good news from the Doc is if I pass both tests then he will release me for RNY surgery (as long as the lung doc agrees). Apparently, having a bad heart and bad set of lungs is a co-mordibity and one that the insurance will approve quicker (for WLS). And, the doc thinks losing the weight could actually reverse som eof the heart damage. So YEAH!!!

Just one more day and then I'm back no track (I hope!).

Say a little prayer!!! Thanks, Cheryl

No longer a candidate for RNY

May 21, 2007

Well, I am no longer a candidate for RNY. I may eventually be a candidate for lap-band, but may not even need it after my other issues are resolved.

Thank God for Dr. G and all of his pre-testing. The Echo showed severe tricuspid regurgitation, mild mitral regurgitation, both atriums are dialated and my right ventricle is dialated. Basically, I have major leaky valvues and blood is going into my lungs. Yuck.

So I see a cardio doc on Friday and a pulmonary doc next Wed. And, after Friday I will also need to see a cardiothoracic surgeon. Sounds like I will either need valve repairs or replacements.

What do you ask caused my heart to fall apart? Well, remember Phen-Fen the wonder weight loss drug? Yes, 10 years ago I took it for 3 months. I lost 60 pounds and thought it was the best thing since chocolate.

As you can imagine, I am not longer a fan of weight loss drugs.

Please keep me in your prayers as I enter this next phase of life - getting my heart fixed.

I wish all of you the best with your weight loss efforts!

Take care of you, Cheryl
