6 months out and under onederland!!!

Sep 21, 2009

well...as of September 9th....I have reached my first set goal for myself...I now weigh 189 lbs...a size 12 solid! and can comfortably ( Im pretty sure anyways....lol) fit into the seats of just about any ride at Kings Dominion this Halloween Haunt October the 9th-12th!! I can eat just about anything I want with no side effects as long as I stay in the fat/sugar range set up by the Nut and of course I do as dumping, brick in the tummy etc are not pleasant side effects!!! I try hard to make healthier choices because protein is my major concern...alas! I had awesome hair before and its a bit thinner now, okay...who am I kidding? lucky for me...I had really thick hair before and its half its former self but I solved that problem but cutting it shorter and layering it as I wait for all these new baby hairs to grow longer and blend in!! I live for my Biotin and Vitamin B's cause they really help with hair, skin and nails....I am loving this newer Rayne....I havent been this thin since 1985 after having my first daughter soooo it rocks!!! no more Diabetes, no more high blood pressure and no more achey ankles and knees!!! I have energy for days (ask poor hubby) do not regret any step thus far...all labs came back great btw!!!

3 months out (almost anyways)

Jun 02, 2009

Well, this is my first blog in a really long time...my old computer would not let this typing template to come up for me to be able to post....I am now almost three months out from having my Gastric Bypass surgery....my date was March the 9th, 2009 at New Hanover with Dr. Miles. I got approved rather quickly with no hitch-ups at all... I started this journey October 15th, 2008 at 277 lbs with my first weigh in but after the holidays I ballooned up to an all time high of 282!!! after meeting the delightful Heidi my NUT, I lost down to 262 and this was my weight day of surgery....I dont remember surgery...when I woke up...I was just glad I did and happy for the morphine pump which I honestly didnt have to use but twice that first night. the nurses were awesome and I went home the next day with no complications...I had races around the hallways in the hospital with my hubby...next day, a little rough but not unbearable...walked every couple hours even if for only ten minutes...lost rapidly and had no problems with the prescribed diet...long story shorter(I am writing this for all that wanted to know what I did before surgery btw) its one week shy of my three month appointment and VOILA!!! I weigh 211 lbs....down 51 from surgery and 71 from all time high...hows that for success? I feel and look years younger...no more aching knees, ankles etc. no more depression....diabetes almost completely gone....blood pressure meds cut in half and better than its been in 20 years....I went from a size 18 stretch to a non- stretch 14 a sized 3x shirt to a large yeah, I said it.....in 3 freakin' months!!! I think Helen will flip out Friday at my check up...she had said that my weight loss would be slower as I didnt have alot to lose??? I am only 36 lbs from the Doctors goal weight for me and 46 lbs from my personal goal(although I may have to re-think it as the last time I weighed that much, I was 23. Im kinda diggin' about 180??? so more excerpts from my new life soon.....I would do this again without hesitation(only sooner)

Mental Evaluation

Dec 12, 2008

well after hearing horror stories about Dr. Campbell from a couple of people...I was pleasantly surprised at how nice he was. We talked about my reasons for having the surgery(my health) and support from family and friends and that the number one cause of failure after the first two years was lack of exercise!!! Hmmmm, I did not know that, I would've figured on eating alot again?? I took a one hour long test like we had in High School with two number two pencils and the little cirlcles...he looked at one I left blank and when I answered for him...he said, hmmm, thats a strike! uh oh!!! well....no one seems to tell me exactly when I will hear back about this but he says if he doesnt call, thats a good sign soooo that was 12/10/2008. still confused about the whole process and keep reading good and bad things that happen down the road...tell me....is anyone else scared of the whole Deep Vein Thrombosis blood clot and dying besides me???? just sayin'!

First Nutrition Appt.

Dec 08, 2008

okay...now I guess I know why the second appt. is so far away...she wants us to start a 1200-1500 calorie low carb, low sugar and low fat diet to jump start the weight loss, shrink our livers and fat storage and get used to eating smaller amounts of foods. Okay, I get it!! although I was not given a set amount to lose, she says that 20 lbs is a good start!! hmmmmm and we are talking about Christmas and New Years coming up....so, I went out and bought all the healthy kinda stuff we wrote into our daily food planners and had me a big fat turkey sub fully loaded to get in before the no carbs rule takes into effect....here we go folks, wish me luck!!!

SECOND APPOINTMENT

Nov 13, 2008

Okay, so today 11/13/2008 was my second appointment. I met alot of nice people waiting in the waiting room at various stages in the process and asked lots of questions. I even met a nice fairly skiiny woman that said she weighed over 300 lbs about a year ago and now weighs 165 woo hoo!!! well, I believe I told you I just barely made the needed BMI by a few pounds cause of my height but I have severe co-morbidities and a family history of deaths due to heart disease and diabetes sooo....anyways after speaking to Helen and the nice PA-C (whom I have no idea what his name was) we decided that the gastric roux en y was the best procedure for me to wipe out all my diseases and never again to take all these meds...I signed up for the two nutrition classes necessary(one is December 8th the other not until freakin' January 26th Darn it!!!) and the mental health evaluation also December but the 10th) after all that passes and I commit to two support group meetings on the first wednesdays of the months....third appt time...she says I dont have to lose any pre surgery weight but that its a good thing to start getting into the habit of no sodas(OMG!!! I am addicted to Diet Dr. Pepper as of ten years old) and to start eating smaller portions...hoping this process will speed up a bit????

FIRST APPT AND MY FEARS

Oct 25, 2008

Okay went to Dr. Miles on 10/18/2008 for my seminar and first weigh in. I was told I basically just barely made the limit at my height and weight!! can you believe that at 277 lbs!! anyways, I had went in fully determined to have the Lap Band but after she talked about both, I am now leaning towards the Roux En Y but am still undecided. I have until the second appt on 11/13/2008 to make up my mind. Ill admit, I ve heard some horror stories but its been mostly friend of a friend kinda thing and not the surgery people. My own sister had the Gastric five years ago with Dr Miles and has never regretted it even though she has had some small problems, so anybody wanting to give me advice, Im an open slate!! xox, Rayne
