Getting Wheels

Jan 21, 2012

After more than six years of considering weight loss surgery and a few good attempts at weight loss, I'm finally putting wheels on this idea.

I went to my first bariatric surgery seminar back in 2005 to support a friend.  I was exactly 100 pounds overweight then.  I was toying with the idea, and listened and asked questions, but something inside me told me it just wasn't for me.  It was a cop-out, it was cheating. People at the seminary looked at me and said, "You certainly don't look like you'd even qualify for the surgery".

The friend I went and supported during that seminar had the surgery shortly after the seminar and is doing great. She says NO REGRETS!  She just recently had a tummy tuck and breast lift.

Coming up on my forty fifth birthday, now about 140 pounds overweight, I want this so bad.  I've been successful in losing over 25 pounds twice since that first seminar, I've managed to gain back a lot more. I went to a seminar on January 16 - some things have changed-new to the scene is the vertical sleeve and the banding. I have no interest in the banding, and the vertical sleeve seems to be much better than the RNY.

My insurance requires that I have at least six months of verifiable doctor supervised weight management.  I will call on the 23rd to make the first appointment.  I spoke briefly about it with my NP at my wellness check up a couple of days ago.

Very excited about the grand  possibility of getting my life back.
Very scared about all the extra skin I'll have.  I have felt things slipping the past couple of years-nothing is where it used to be-my skin has given out.
