And so my watch begins...

Gastric bypass surgery is pretty much Nothing the way I imagined it. I was actually kind of p*ssed off when I didn't lose at least 10 lbs. after surgery while I was in  hospital, but I didn't lose anything. Now I know how dumb I was after all I was hooked up to the IV that kept pumping me full of fluids. But, after two weeks, I've lost 25 lbs. So I'm good.

I live in a nice town in Texas that is about 2 - 4 hours away from anything. There was no bariatric surgeon here and when I was approved by Tricare (military insurance) I was thrilled and happy to go to Austin (3 hours away) for the surgery. The problem is it's a long trip now that I've had the surgery and no support groups around here that I can tell. This is why I'm thrilled to find ObesityHelp. My dear friend who lives in Alabama gave me such good advice and help that I will be eternally grateful. She had the surgery about a year or so ago, and she looks FANTASTIC!

Although I'm not really a people person, it'd be nice to communicate with others who are going through the same thing I am. I love to read those before and after stories for encouragement, I'm always cheering for those (like the rest of us) who are courageous enough to take that first step and work toward their goal. I've struggled most of my life with my weight. I've lost , then gained back, then lost, then gained back more. I compare myself to an addict, and I will always look at it that way. I will always be an addict, but now I am RECOVERING.
