My story is very similar to everyone else's story. I was overweight the majority of my life; matter-of-fact, I was morbidly obese. I always was a happy person but the surgery helped to make me a healthier person.
I began the weight loss surgery journey in September 2004; luckily, I had a cousin who wanted the surgery so we did everything together. Matter-of-fact, we both had surgery on January 31, 2005. We even shared the same room after surgery. She was a godsend.
My surgery went so well that honestly I asked when I was going to have the surgery. How surprising and happy was I to find out that I already had surgery. I had no post-surgery issues at all. Again, I was blessed.
I went from a size of 26/28 to a 4/6. Initially, it was weird to have people telling me how small I was, how lucky I was and how I ate like a bird. Mentally, it took my brain a much long time to catch up with my actual body size. People had to tell me that I was wearing clothes that were too large. It took me awhile to really believe that I was wearing a single-size digit in clothing.
I can say that I have never regretted the surgery.
