Well it's probably like everyone elses.  I struggled with my weight on and off.  I weighed 117 lbs when I got married, gained 65 pounds with both my pregnancies, and couldn't get it all off after the second child. I stayed at about 155 pounds while I was working at a hospital, even tho I was constantly walking.  It wasn't until I had a job related injury, didn't work for three years that I gained an additional forty pounds.  Considering I'm only 5 feet tall, that was a lot of weight!

During the last five years, my mom died, my brother died, my sister died, all from diabetes, all on dialysis.  I buried them all next to each other. Talk about a wake up call!  There are (were) six siblings,me being the youngest.  All of them have been diagnosed with diabetes except for me. My doc says i'm borderline, need to lose weight.  I tried to give my sis a kidney, but was rejected due to the high risk in my family. She was on the transplant list, but died February 2007, before she could ever get her kidney.  It was after burying her, that I knew I had to do something, because I was headed down the same path. I started researching in June 2007.  It took till December 28, 2007 to have my RNY.  I am about 2 weeks post op and am doing fine. I weighed 197 pounds the day before my surgery and had lost 9 lbs at my first week check up.

I know it'sgoing to be a long journey, filled with ups and downs.  But, with all of your support, I know we can make it together!
