12/22/08 Surgery Day

I was at the hospital by 9:30. They took me straight back. I lost 14 lbs. on the pre-op diet. WooHoo. That's awesome considering I had a hard time sticking to the diet. I wasn't nervous until I saw my doctor. That is the  moment that hit me that I was really going through with the surgery. His nurse came in, then the OR nurse came in. The anesthesiologist came in and that is the last thing I remember. I was out.

Then I woke up gasping for air. I could not breathe. I felt like a fish out of water. My throat was so tight and no matter how deep of a breath I took, I just could not get enough. I really thought I was going to die. The nurse told me to take small breaths and blow out like if I was trying to whistle. I could not move my legs and could barely move my arms. It was horrible. I've never had an experience like this. As time went by, I was able to breathe better and able to move my legs. They took me to my recovery room and my daughter and sister-in-law came in to see me. The nurse had me drink some water and eat jello. She gave me some medication and asked me take a walk with her. We took a few steps, she took me back to the room and told me to get dressed. She came back in and released me. THAT WAS FAST! I decided to stay at my brother's house so my sister-in-law could take care of me. I was taking my medication every 4 hours. The rest of Monday and Tuesday is a blur to me. I called my doctor Wed afternoon because I could not urinate. The nurse was shocked that they let me out of the hospital without urinating first. I figured I had a catheter and that was the reason why I was having such a hard time but they did not have to use one.  I did not have a good experience with the hospital staff at all. I do not feel that they took good care of me and rushed me out too fast. Thank God I was finally able to use the  bathroom and I am ok. I do not have any restriction in my band so I can practically eat anything if I wanted to. I can drink an 11 oz. can of SlimFast with no problem.  Today is Saturday 12/27/08 and the only pain I feel is the port incision. Other than that I feel fine. I lost another 3 pounds. So all together, I am down 17 lbs. I hope they give me a fill on Friday (2 week appt), because I sure was wanting a bite of the pizza my kids were eating last night.......
