Starting the New Year off right
Jan 06, 2007
January 3rd
With my husband by my side we attended a seminar for gastric bypass surgery. I came out scared, but encouraged.
January 9th.
I am excited and I have an appointment to see my surgeon on Tuesday I have one more hurdle getting the surgery approved by my insurance company.
January 25th
I meet with the dietician and she gives me her approval for surgery.
January 31st
I meet with the Psychiatrist and again all goes well and I get her approval for surgery.
Now the waiting games begins....
I was told by my surgeons office that it will take about two weeks to process the paperwork and get an answer back from the insurance.
Did I mention that I am not a patient person???
February 9th
The impatient person that I am, I place call to Jody in my Surgeon's office and ask how the process is going and if she has heard anything from the insurance company.
Jody asks me if I had my appointment with the psychiatrist yet and I told her two weeks ago and she said that they never got the report, so she get on the phone with the psychiatrist, only to find that she is about to leave the country, but she was able to get her to agree to send them my report before she left.
Februrary 15th
Jody from Dr. Fedorak's office calls and leves me a voice message asking me to call her back with the number to my insurance company.
It appears that when they had photo copied my insurance card that they missed the top left hand corner of the card and of course that is the information that they needed to process my information and get approval for surgery. Jody assures me that everything is ok and that she doesn't anticipate any problems from my insurance company and that we should have an answer back next week. To Be Continued......
March 1st
I get a call from Karen at Empire Blue (Blue Cross/Blue Shield) and I have been approved for surgery. You can imagine my excitement; it is a dream come true for me and a chance to be normal, not obese anymore. My heart was racing 90 miles an hours and my emotions were all over the place from extremely happy and excited to nervous and scared.
I immediately called my surgeons office and scheduled my pre-op appointment for March 8th (the next available appointment) I was told that I would be scheduled an appointment for surgery on that date, which they said is about two to three weeks out. It hit me that I could be having my surgery this month. I can't wait to be on the losing side.
March 6th
Oh My God, My appointment to see my surgeon was moved up from Thursday the 8th until this afternoon. So today is the day that I find out what day is going to change my life forever.
I am so excited! April 2nd is the magic number and the day that will change my life forever. I am nervous now that it is coming together, but more so I am very excited.
March 22nd
I have my pre-op appointment at the hospital and everything goes well.
This is really starting to become so real.
9 days until surgery when becoming real becomes actuality.
March 27th
My mother flies from California to be with me before and after surgery.
I can't say enough about my mother, I really believe that she is an angel sent from God to me. I am who I am because of her love and prayers for me.
How do you say thanks to an angel?
My Precious Mother with me a few days before my surgery
April 1st
I can' t believe how fast the time has gone and tomorrow April 2nd I will be having my surgery. I am nervous, but so excited to be on the losing side.
April 2nd
Surgery went well without complication. Due to the high altitude here in Colorado I came home on oxygen, but I am so glad it is behind and now I am on the road to recovery and health.
April 10th
My one week post op checkup
I am on ozygen, weak, swollen and have some numbing in my stomach.
Due to all the swelling I though for sure I would have gained weight, but I didn't I lost 13 lbs in one week.
Did you hear me screaming???? I lost 13 lbs in one week. I love sitting on the loser bench.
April 17th
My two week post op checkup
My surgeon is please with my progress.
I am doing very well and I haven't had any complications.
I am released to go back to work part time on Monday April 23rd
April 18th
I had my first post-op appointment with the dietician. She was pleased with my progress and started me on vitamins.
May 1st
I have been working part time for the past two weeks and doing well.
I lost 2 lbs this week for a total of 24 lbs in a month, but this past week hasn't been a good week for me, everything I eat comes back up.
I saw Dr. Fedorak today and he said that I have a stricture, so I am going back in the hospital Friday to have a minor procedure to correct the stricture.
May 4th
Due to the stricture I have not been able to eat in a week losing 6 lbs for a total of 30 lbs in 4 1/2 weeks.
I go into the hospital to have the endoscope procedure to correct the stricture. I am dialated from 6mm to 12mm. I wake up feeling great and now I am able to resume eating as normal.
May 25th
Almost 7 weeks post-op and I have an appointment with Sandy my dietician.
I am down 39 lbs and Sandy is pleased with my progress.
The appointment went well, the only suggestion Sandy had for me was to incorporate more frozen fruit and cooked vegetables in my diet and to add flax seed and fish oil supplement to prevent hair loss.
July 3rd.
12 weeks post-op. I see Dr. Fedorak for my 3 month checkup and I am down 50 lbs. Dr. Fedorak said I am right on track and doing great and that he will see me again in 3 months and in that time I should lose around 30 lbs and be under 200 lbs.
I can't imagine being under 200 lbs, it has been years since I have been under 200 lbs.
Wow!
Before and after 50 lbs
50 lb loss
August 5th
17 weeks post-op. I still get sick a lot, but I think I am eating too fast.
You would think that if you got sick almost everyday that one would learn to slow down.
I have lost 69 lbs and I feel great with the exception of the occasional sickness
Before and after 69 lbs
69 lb loss
5 Month Post Op and 78 lbs gond forever
September 22nd
Today I made it to onederland
