I have been overweight all of my life. Have struggled with Jenny Craig, Slimfast - all sorts of diets. Some worked, some didn't. Those that did work, didn't work for long. I think the most that I lost was around 60 pounds in High School on the Jenny Craig diet.
The last time that I saw a Doctor was in the first grade when I broke my leg. My mother was a registered nurse so she took care of any illness that popped up. So, I finally worked up the nerve to see a Primary Care Physician(Dr. Kakish- Beaumont) in July of 2005 at the age of 28. I was so scared and nervous sitting in that office. Would she judge me, yell at me? Nope - she was very calm and understanding. My weight at that first office visit was 401. I'm 5'2", my BMI was 71. I was shocked that I weighed that much. I'm sure that the last time I was weighed was early High School thru Jenny Craig and I can't remember what those numbers would have been. After going thru family history and all of that I asked if she thought that I would be a good candidate for the surgery and she said yes and that she would support me.
