On the other side

Feb 18, 2009

Well, I made it. I am now a week post op and doing great!  Down 10 # already!! Yeah!Surgery was pretty uneventful except for some BP problems day of surgery but well controlled next day. At one week I am up and going, did shopping today and lots of walking. Took lots of breaks but did really good I think. Tonight I attended my first WLS support group here in Canton. Met up with some old friends who I had know idea were pursuing/had surgery also. That was really great. I feel I have been very fortunate with what I have been able to eat/drink. My pouch does not seem extremely sensitive as I have heard other discuss. There have been a few times when I knew my choice of full liquids was not the same as what my pouch felt was appropriate. No N/V or anything, just queasy unease for awhile. Drinking seems to alleviate that, esp teas. I so wish I had done this years ago but I am glad I was finally able to get it done. It's been amazing the support I have gotten from most of my family and friends. I know they are worried (esp my mom) but they are in my corner cheering me on. The ones that aren't....hopefully in time they can see this really is a good thing for me and was really a choice of choosing to live longer instead of die younger at the rate I was going. I have to many grand babies I have to see grow up and take to the beach and play actively with to continue the way I was going. This surgery has really made me inventory my life to an extent. I feel this was a decision in putting me first, and that is not a bad thing. This is the first thing I feel in a long, long time that I have done just for me, because it was something I needed to do for me, no one else. Wasn't something I passively agreed to so I could keep peace, or just go with the flow on. In fact....I feel like I am swimming up stream trying to get everyone on my side. That may or may not happen. I just know I have done the right thing for my life. Anyhow, I am thrilled to be on the loser's bench now and am going to try and be the best bench sitter there ever was.
