The long and winding road ... has an end in sight!

Jul 09, 2012

I have been on my own long journey for quite a while. After seeing 4 docs and rejecting/being rejected for a number of reasons, I had to start all over 'cause I was having a prob with insurance. I'm a senior and up till last week, Medicare did not cover the sleeve ... and a lot of docs didn't take Medicare.

There is a new ruling that allows Medicare to approve the Sleeve. There is still a remote possibility that I won't qualify. I don't want a full RNY - 'cause I don't like anything about it.

I had planned to do the lap band, but the new ruling changes that. While I don't like the idea of having 75% of my stomach removed, I am excited that this procedure is low-risk surgically and highly effective.

My only problem at the moment is trying to figure out if I should be operated on by Dr. David Provost of Denton, TX or Dr. Harry Meyers of Dallas, TX. Dr. Provost is considered to be the preeminent authority on WLS surgery and the leading surgeon in the Southwest.

Dr. Meyers is loved by his patients, is in Dallas and appears to be highly qualified. But one of the Dr's I met with recently told me to go to Provost. He said Provost is hands-down the best and since I'm a high risk case with BMI of 68, Provost is the only one who should do my surgery. Problem is 1) Haven't yet found a way to get to his office, some 35 miles away, and 2) I don't like his staff.

Dr. Meyers has a nice staff, but a somewhat unorganized one. Sort of an old-fashioned office not set up for volume like many others.

I'd like to connect with other Sleevers who think positively. I'd like to hear about your journey and begin a dialogue at this stage in my journey.

So ... wanna chat?

Kate

P.S. While I'm stuck with my age, I'm not old in any other way. I look, think and act 20 years younger. *
