In the beginning.......
Jan 26, 2009
I started out 2 years ago trying to get my surgery approved. My doctors fought a good fight with the insurance company but we lost. My husband signed us both up to go to a seminar and we found out about the sleeve. Needless to say, after getting funding, I decided to have the surgery. My reason for the surgery was to save my life. I took 2 shots of long lasting insulin a day in addition to 3 to 5 shots with each meal. I was spending $250 a month on meds.My new life began on 1-8-09 when I had the sleeve. I went in weighing 337 pounds. It is now two weeks later and I have not had any of the complications that could occur (reflux, dumping, etc.) Matter of fact, I had to ask my husband several times was he SURE I had surgery because I did feel like I did, with the exceptions of the bandages and the loss of appetite. Well, I went to my 2 wk follow-up and I lost 27 pounds! I was so excited! I had worried that I was eating too much or not doing enough (I am now walking 1 and 1/4 mile a day compared to two weeks ago I couldn't even walk one time around the track).
I'm really scared of what the future holds, but I know I can do this for me and my health. I have the most loving and supportive husband and I know with him by my side, I will lose my weight and reach my goal!
