Hey everyone.

I embarked on the newest phase of my life on October 28, 2008 with RNY surgery at Valley Care Medical Center in Pleasanton, CA.  I wizzed through the qualifying process, various tests, 25 required class hours, etc. in less than five weeks.  I was persistant, to put it nicely.  Would I do it again?  At this stage (nearly four weeks out) the answer is decidedly NO.  That doesn't mean I'm not working the plan and doing everything according to protocol. (Okay, I admit, I've cheated just a little on the whole pureed foods thing, BUT I've chewed each mouthful to dust before swallowing, LOL.)

While I might have regrets, I accept my decision and will make the best of it with the most positive attitude I can muster!

Life story:

I grew up in the Midwest, mostly in a small town in NE Missouri, attended MU and KSU for three years and started working due to family problems (oh, and that wee bit of non-motivation problem on my part.)  Married at age 25, first child at 30, second baby 21 mos. later. Worked as office manager/bookkeeper for various construction companies until first baby was on it's way, then worked part time as a bookkeeper for nine years after second baby.  Moved to the far East Bay of CA eleven years ago and haven't worked outside the home in all that time.  As soon as my stamina is up to par, I'll be looking for employment, however.

As I was growing up, I always felt like the "fat girl" when in reality (as I look at old photos) I wasn't fat so much as "bigger" than my peers.  I was 5'9" in sixth grade, head and shoulders above everyone else in my class.  I also developed breasts and hips early, which contributed to my perception of being fat.  Back then, at my height (a 38C chest) and a weight of 145, I wore a size 16; the end of the rack!  Thus dieting started in my teens.

I didn't become obese until put on massive doses of steroids at age 29 due to an allergy. Bad, bad, medical care.  I gained 60 lbs. in five months.  This began my yo-yo of weight gain and loss for the next 22 years, culminating in a high of 290 lbs. in September 2008.  That's when I made the decision to try gastric bypass and due to insurance requirements, had the surgery at Valley Care.

Now, on with the show...
