great news shannon! i am having my wls on the 18th, 5 hours from home. i plan on driving back home as soon as i am discharged. my honey of course will do the driving. then on the 24th we plan on visiting my family in albuquerque, an 8 to 10 hour drive. i am very fortunate that my cardiologist told me he would be honored to remove my staples for me so i dont have to run back to phoenix to have it done. he will send a report to my surgeon & then i wont have to see the surgeon for a couple of months.

Good afternoon, Congratulations on your rapidly approaching surgery date. I had my lap RNY on 12/3 and am a single parent so I thought I would address your post. First of all, I would say if you plan to go ahead with your scheduled surgery date and are discharged on 12/23 or 12/24, you are NOT going to be in the mood to be sitting in a car for three hours. You're still going to be having pain, and in my opinion, I wouldn't recommend it. As for the single-parent part, I had my mother fly in from California to help me out, she's still here. It's not that I can't do things for myself, but it's easier for her to get the meals together for my baby and me. Now all of this is just my experience and you may be completely different, but remember I had mine laparoscopically. Do you have people who can come in and be of assistance to you in the days after your surgery? This procedure is major surgery and I don't want to sugar coat it and say it's a piece of cake. I'd say: Count on a quiet Christmas at home and be prepared to party next year. Again, all this is just my opinion. Take Care.
