I am almost 18 years post post from my RNY gastric bypass. In that time, my weight has fluctuated a it but I have kept the majority of it off. During the RNY, my doc had to remove a lot of abdominal adhesions from prior surgeries- appendectomy, three CSections, tubal ligation and gall bladder removal. In the years after my RNY, I experienced ongoing abdominal pain from complex ovarian cysts (resulting in the removal of one ovary plus my uterus (all bound up in scar tissue) and a separate surgery to remove the other ovary a year later (more scar tissue). That surgery was rough with an open wound and daily nurse visits at home as my marriage ended. A few years later, I found a lovely man who married me and adopted my girls! I had a partial bowel obstruction with lysis of adhesions. Two years after that, a full bowel obstruction with emergency surgery and another lysis of adhesions. Three hospitalizations later, my biggest goal was to d9 whatever was necessary to avoid another surgery. I live with chronic pain from the massive adhesions. I should make it clear that these adhesions were NOT related to the gastric bypass. They run in my family and any abdominal surgery causes them to return. There is no cure and no prevention (other than t9 never have surgery)
