"With my RNY, the folks on 9 West were wonderful. This is the bariatric floor. They responded quickly to my needs and were very supportive. When I had to go back to the ER for vomiting, the staff didn' t really understand my recent RNY. I had to have a CT scan and the ER nurse told me to "just gulp" the contrast media. A) I had been admitted for nausea and vomiting and B) My pouch would not take "gulping". I sipped for what I think was about 3 hours and got half of it down. The tech who did my scan was great. He taught me an easier way to get up, breathing out while he helped me to a sitting position. The surgery crew was great both times, can't say a bad word about them. When I returned to the floor, the staff on 8 West (the general surgery floor), the had a BiPap machine waiting in the room. I told the nurse just to take it out, I wouldn't use it and didn't want to be charged for it. I guess she saw me as a non-compliant patient and really treated me as such. I explained that I never used my CPAP at home since my apnea was mild to moderate. She took what seemed like forever to get my pain med when I asked and never got me any ice, water, etc. My husband did all that for me. Luckily, she was only there until the night crew got in. Everyone else was very kind and supportive. The next morning, they brought me scrambled eggs, a danish, milk and orange juice for breakfast. I am glad I knew what I was SUPPOSED to be eating 5 days post-op! I had my husband, once again, get me some diluted juice and ice. I was glad to be discharged that day!"

Steve Katsis

"I had hear many wonderful things about Dr. Katsis before I decided to have WLS. I knew he would be my surgeon once I decided to have surgery. Once meeting him, he lived up to his reputation. He is a kind considerate man. He is also a strong Christian, which is important to me. When I went for my consulatation with him, he explained everything clearly and answered all my and my husband's questions. His staff is wonderful and is alway willing to help. I think his surgical competence and bedside manner are wonderful. I ended up back in the hospital 4 days after surgery with an incisional hernia and Dr. Katsis had me in surgery that very day. Through no fault of his, my abdominal wall tore right past the staple line and small bowel was allowed to sneak through. He explained everything to me very clearly and even drew pictures! I am greatful to Dr. Katsis for giving me a new life!"
