Starting Pre-op diet today

May 29, 2015

I am starting my 10 day pre-op diet today, It is going to be tough but I figure if I cannot do that for 10 days then maybe I am not ready to get the surgery. I am super excited and now that the time is getting closer a little nervous, I know it will all be worth it when i am feeling so much better. Beginning of this week I went to my Pre-education class as well as my Pre-admissions testing appointment.

Getting close!

May 20, 2015

I got called last week with my pre-op appointments! Today I went and saw my Dr. and got all my anti-nausea prescriptions- 4 of them, also got my pain script for post-op so happy I won't have to deal with that after surgery. Tuesday I have my pre-education class with my NUT. My mom will be going as my support person, I am so happy I have her to help me. Also next week I have my pre admission thing at the hospital and more blood work. Next Friday I start my Pre-op diet... things are starting to go fast now after waiting for so long!

May 05, 2015

So I finally called the Dr office about a week after my last post because they failed to call me. They let me know my surgery will be June 9th. Anyone else have the same surgery date?

The Beginning of a new me!

Feb 22, 2015

I was referred for bariatric surgery by my orthopedic surgeon 6 months ago. I have a few herniated discs in my lower back and He was saying that I am in need of surgery, but depending on me when I needed this surgery. He told me if I did nothing I would need surgery soon and probably 3 or 4 more over the course of my lifetime, but if I lost a lot of weight as soon as I could I could possibly hold off on surgery til after I was 45 and it would be possible that I would only need one back surgery in my lifetime. So I immediately made appointments to see a nutritionist that works closely with the bariatric clinic and attended the wls seminar, From there they let me know what I needed to do for my insurance to approve my surgery.

  • 6 month medically supervised diet (last meeting is this Wednesday! 02/25/15)
  • Psychological evaluation- Done 01/22/15
  • Pulmonology Consult- Done 01/09/15
  • Sleep Study- found out I have sleep apnea- Done 02/12/15
  • Nutrition Consult 12/2/14
  • Labs and Nicotine testing (stopped smoking in October!) Done 01/14/15
  • EGD @ gastroenterologist- Done 01/14/15
  • Fitness assessment- Done 01/06/15
  • Followup with Primary care Physician high blood pressure and Thyroid- Done

Last thing that I need is a follow up with the doctors about my sleep study, Then they will be able to submit it to insurance for the approval, Then I will get my Surgery date! It has been a long process but I know it will be well worth it. I have been on this site just looking, reading and learning, gaining inspiration for the last 2 months and I figured it was finally my time to add something.
