Wow it's been awhile!

Aug 12, 2008

Well it's been a real long while since I posted here.  I have been given a surgery date of Oct 3rd, 2008.  I am very excited - but still scared!

Have moved to a new place - cute 2 bedroom condo.  No more lawn mowing or snow blowing for me.

Looking forward to getting back into the swing of life again - now that I am living someplace where there is soooo much more to do.

Getting ready to join a gym so I can start getting healthy again!

Oh so Close to Getting a Date.......

Jun 26, 2008

I talked with Angie yesterday at GT Surgery and they have sent the request to OHIP now to recommend moving forward with my RNY.  Once they hear back from OHIP - the surgeon will review and they will call me with a date!  Yey!!!!

All Pre-OP Tests Finally Done!

Jun 21, 2008

Well I had my lasts tests on Friday.  I have had the stress test (results are back and all is well), the scope (still waiting on test results - but what I recall from the Doctor's comments after the procedure (not 100% sure was still pretty high from the drugs they give to know you out - LOL) was that there was just a little iritation) and had the blood tests on Friday.

Going to follow up with Dr. Winters (Dr. who completed the scope on Monday) and hopefully have all of my results to Dr. Nizzi's office by Tuesday!!

I should then get a surgery date - can't wait!!

Day Two of my Stress Test

Jun 11, 2008

Well Day 2 was much more eventful than day 1.....LOL.  Started out with the nurse putting in an IV - and me pretty much passing out..... don't like blood tests or IV's.  So then my vein colapsed - so she decided to take it out.... I started to feel better.  So because I was so woosy with the IV - they decided to inject me with the dye while I was walkin on the treadmill - instead of using the IV.  So I get going on the tread mill and my heart rate isn't going up - so the Doctor finally asks me if I am taking any meds - and I tell him what I am on - which include Metoprolol which is a beta blocker.  So apparently, you're supposed to be off these meds for the Stress test - no one told me.... surprise....LOL.  So that aborted the tread mill part of the test.  So instead of that - I had to go and lay down in a room and be injected with some type of meds that would artificially increase my blood flow.  Apparently, this can also increase the blood flow not only to your heart - but also to your head - so they had an other drug sitting there to give me in case it gave me a bad headache - which fortunately it didn't.  So they took my ECG and then gave me the dye and I had to go and sit for another 20 minutes before they took the second set of films.  Anyway - long story short it took over 2 1/2 hours to complete.  Hopefully will get the results back quickly without any  issues.

Step 1 of Stress Test complete

Jun 09, 2008

Well I have completed the first day of the test...... was no big deal - received an injection of dye and basically laid on a xray bed for about 10 minutes while they took films.  Tomorrow I get to have the same procedure - but then run on the tredmill before taking the films...... should be interesting......  Glad I'm in a hospital - so there will be people there who know CPR when I drop dead from the exhertion.......LOL

Things are Moving Along

Jun 07, 2008

Well it was more difficult than I thought to get my test scheduled quickly.  I have my stress test on Monday/Tuesday of next week - and my scope is scheduled for the following Monday June 16th.  I spoke to Angie at Grand Traverse last week - and it looks like I might be looking at the beginning of September now for a potential surgury date depending on how quickly the results come back from my  tests.  Still very excited!!  Haven't been losing any additional weight though...... want to try to get back on track to take off some pounds before the surgery date.   Wow it was smokin' hot here today!.... Can't wait to be able to wear a cute bathing suit and not sweat so much! LOL

Well I went!! And I'm Glad I Did!!

May 15, 2008

Well I did end up going to my consult in Traverse City. I wasn't going to go - and changed my mind a couple of times - before we finally left on Tuesday afternoon.  My boyfriend Paul went with me - which was wonderful.  I saw the Nutritionist on Weds morning, Surgeon Weds afternoon and attended a information group meeting in the evening.  Great experience - was really surprised at how many people were at the group session - apparently though there were only 4 that were from Canada.  There was a tremendous amount of information provided which was great!   I do have to have some additional testing done - including a stress test and scope to rule out a hernia as I have a long-term history of acid reflux.  I am going to try to get these all completed this coming week.  They are booking surgery dates for early August - and once I have completed the additional tests - pending no other issues - I will get my date.  Really want to have the surgery completed by mid-August - so I am going to be very diligant about staying organized and getting these final items completed asap.  Getting really excited now - it feels REAL!!

OMG - Only 2 more days left till Traverse City!!

May 10, 2008

The day's are flying by......  my BF is going to go with me to Traverse City for my consult.  My sister was supposed to attend - but won't be able to make it.  It will be weird having Paul with me - as we've only been together for about 8mths and having him participate in the support group meeting wasn't something I was planning.   Hmmmmm it may be interesting....LOL

Getting Closer to the Day!

May 04, 2008

Well my consult is May 13th/14th in Traverse City..... only a week away.....I've got to have my blood tests done tomorrow morning - so I'm on a 12 hr fast.  I have been feeling pretty stressed the last couple of weeks.......  I am feeling confused about that as I should be excited?????

My First Post

Apr 13, 2008

Well - this is my first post on my blog..... to get you up to date - I have applied for and been approved by OHIP for a consult with Dr. Nizzi in Traverse City.  My sister had Dr. Nizzi as a surgeon in 2004 and was very pleased with Grand Traverse Surgery and her experience - so I am very comfortable with my choice to have Dr. Nizzi do my RNY.

I have an appointment for May 14th for the consult.  My sister is going to accompany me to the appointment(s) and the info seminar - as she is also going to have a follow up visit with Dr. Nizzi on the same day.

I'm excited!!  Looking forward to a life-long change!  It's definately time for it!  :)
