2005---Attended information seminars at two hospitals.  Decided I was too scared to do the RNY.  I have no health problems, just my weight.

Summer 2007--St Mary's in Evansville now offering Lap Band

Sept 26, 2007 Attended info seminar again at St Mary's.  Filled out paperwork and dropped off at the office two days later.

10/11/2007 1st appt scheduled for 10/23/07

10/23/2007 1st appt.  Consult with Dietician and Social Worker.  Was given "assignments" to do such as geneology tree related to health conditions.  Also to start food journaling.

10/29/07  They took 11 tubes of blood, EKG, Pulm Function Test, Chest Xray.  Down 6.5#.

11/20/07 1st visit with Dr. Temmerman.  I really liked her.  She reviewed all my tests and told me my calcium was low, cholestrol borderline.  Saw dietician for more info, then Social Worker to turn in my assignments.  Down 5#.  Total 11.5#.

12/6/07  Down 6#, Total 17.5#.  Behavior modification class today. Had appt with Dr. Temmerman.

12/12/07  EGD today--I was so nervous, but it was a piece of cake.  I even wore my clothes and shoes with a gown over it for the procedure.  Hardest part was starting my IV.  I don't remember anything after being taken into the surgery room.  Had sleep study--I had a really hard time going to sleep, but then was fine.  The worst thing was the sticky stuff they put in my hair (I have lots of hair).

12/520/07  Went for my fitness eval today.  They just took my vitals and had me walk this track for 6 minutes, then re-checked vitals.  Gave me an exercise band to use.

12/21/07  Got call today that sleep study was normal

1/4/08  Down 10.7#, total 28.2#.  Appt with Dr. Temmerman.   1/2 done with 6mo supervised diet.

2/7/08  2nd Behavior Modification class today.  Also saw Dr. Temmerman again.  Down 5.7#, Total 33.9#.  I talked with Dr. about my concerns with insurance (my benefit period ends 5/31/2008--my 6th month visit won't be complete until 4/08, then will have to wait for insurance response, then surgery consult, etc).  Dr. Temmerman told the insurance lady to send my file to insurance on Monday 2/11/08.  Now--lots of prayer.  I've waited a long time for this and I'm scared of insurance rejection.

2/21/2008 Called insurance co to see if they had received packet from bariatric center...yep they got it on 2/12...now in "review process"

2/23/08 Called insurance today just for kicks...was told that had made thru all the medical record requirements and only needed one final step, for the medical director there to show medically necessary.  (I'm chewing my fingernails now!)

3/7/08 Called insurance and was told "approved at contracted rate" (not sure exactly what that means

3/10/08 call from St Mary's Bariatric to info me that they got my approval!!!!!!!!!

3/31/2008  Appt with Dr. Haughn (surgeon) today--got my date 5/9/08.  I'm so excited, but a little bummed cause I was told no wait for band and it's 6 weeks away.  I know it will be here soon, but I'm getting impatient!

5/5/08  Well God knows what he was doing...I whined about having so much time to wait for surgery, but my mamaw has been very sick and in hospital 2 weeks and nursing home 10 days.  She's home and doing better now, so I can concentrate on myself a little.  I was a little disappointed today--I was only down  0.4lb this time, but better than gaining.  I started my liquid diet on Saturday and so far I'm doing okay, but I keep waiting for the meltdown to happen!  I'm drinking a cup of juice with protein powder for breakfast, cup of skim milk with protein powder for lunch, and then a variety in the evening (popcicles, ff sf ice cream, broth, ff sf pudding, ff sf jello, etc) and lots of water in between.  I also put the protein powder in the broth, pudding, jello, etc.  I have been faithful for 5 weeks going to the gym before work for 30 minutes 4-5 times a week.  I am very excited and a tiny bit nervous.

5/9/2008 Today was the day!  I arrived at the surgery center about noon, was asked lots of questions, give stomach meds, changed into gown, wrapped my legs to thighs with ace wraps, put on air boots, got a heparin shot, iv started, and spoke with anesthesiologist.  About 2:10 I was off to surgery.  I remember going into the room, talking with the staff and my doctor, then getting medicine in my iv and the next thing I know--I'm in recovery with about 5 covers on me--I was freezing.  Then they took me back to my room.  I was so groggy, so I slept off and on all evening.  Then about 2:30 in the morning I woke up and felt like going to the bathroom and taking a walk.  Lab drew blood about 5.  Got up and walked every couple hours.  Midmorning they came to get me for my barium swallow--wow that stuff is really nasty--thank goodness I only had to take a few sips!  Everything was ok, so they brought me some jello and cranberry juice.  Nothing really tasted good except water, so I just kept sippin.  Had gas pain up in shoulders like everyone says.  I only had to take 2 doses of Dilaudid right after surgery, then nothing til 9pm (another dose), then none til 9am I took Lortab 5, then another 5 at 6pm, then 7.5 at bedtime.  Sunday only needed 1 full dose and 2 half doses.

5/13/2008  Horrible gas pains in my left shoulder!!!  Did everything everyone said to do--walk, gas x, heat, move, etc.  Not working!5/14/08 I figured out last night that if I prop myself on my left side the pain gets out of my shoulder.  Yeah!  Feelin much better.

5/16/08 Best day yet!  Mushies start tomorrow!5/19/08 Went back to work today--tired, but did ok.  Mushies has been going ok but I really don't care if I have food right now.  I prefer the liquids.  Went to see Dr. Haughn today for my surgery follow up... I lost almost 16#---Yeah!!! Go me!!!

6/16/2008 1st fill today--I was nervous cause you hear everyone's horror story--and I was pleasantly surprised.  Dr. had me lay on my back, do a crunch, put 6cc saline in, sit up, drink water, pulled 2cc saline back out, needle out, drink more water, done.  So easy and only a tiny pinch pain!  Down to 267.4--Yeah!

7/7/08 2nd fill today--I was so relaxed since everything went so well last time.  I now have 8cc in a 14cc band.  I have some restriction, but I don't think I'm at my sweet spot yet. wt down to 259#.

8/18/08 fill #3...9cc in band.  Again no problem with fill.

11/3/08 fill #4...10cc in band.  I hope this is the one.

1/11/09 Ok, so I'm a bad blogger....time gets away quick.  I hit -100# today!  WOOHOO!!!  I always wanted it, but never really thought it would actually happen.  I'm 221# today.  Next stop 2teens.  My goal is to be under 200 by my Bandiversary, so that is 22# in 4 months which should be very attatinable.  I always get my water and protein in and I exercise 5 or so hours per week.  I finally feel like exercise is a part of everyday life.   I'm so excited to think about going on vacation in June to Disney with my kids and actually take part, not sit on a bench while everyone has fun!
