I met with my new PCP today. I really liked her and she was very quick to provide me with a referral to Dr. Waldrep's office. I should be able to get an appointment there within the next couple of weeks. She's processing the referral. She also ordered all of my initial lab work, so I'll go take care of that in the morning since it requires 12 hours of fasting.
I am cautiously optimistic. I hope this all comes together for me. I need this tool to help me succeed.

I am in the very earliest of stages in this process. I have kicked around the idea of having WLS for quite some time. I've always had the attitude that it is an easy way out or somehow cheating. I'm trying to get those thoughts out of my head and am taking more of an approach that I wouldn't try to travel accross the country without a vehihcle. Almost every job has a tool that makes the job easier. Maybe I just can't be successful at maintaining weight loss without this tool. Maybe I need the help. I have to come to terms with this... and I am. It's just a stretch for me since I've had that other attitude for so long.
I have an appointment with my brand new PCP on Wednesday. I will discuss with her if I am a potential candidate for WLS. I called PacifiCare today to ask if my policy covered WLS. The answer was if it is medically necessary and you have pre-approval. I asked for a definnition of medically necessary. The answer was "if your doctor says it's medically necessary". So, I guess it's just a matter of meeting with my PCP and seeing what she has to say. I do not have any of the comorbidities associated with being morbidly obese... but my history of losses and gains is extensive.
I am trying not to get overly excited or put too much on this until I meet with her on Wednesday. After I talk with her I'll have a better idea of weather or not I should be excited or not.
