Another new beginning

Mar 03, 2009

Hi everyone,

This is all new to me, but here goes.....I originally had my Gastric Bypass in 1999 and it was RNY open procedure.  It was before they did the Laproscopic procedure.  Everything went really well.  I lost a total of about 95 pounds in the first year and then everything that could happen did.  I had Adhesions in my stomach and had surgert for those, then in 2001 I ended up back in the hospital with Adhesions again and again and again for a total of eight surgeries that year!
The first of those surgeries I was in the hospital for 2 months because my intestines were so bound up by the adhesions they wouldn't work.  The last of my surgeries that year was for a Colostomy bag because they needed to give my colon a rest.  That was reversed five months later, thank the Lord that I survived all the surgeries.  I almost died five times in eight months!
Everything went fairly well after that until I was given the drug, Naproxen, for a back problem.  After having taken it for a year and a half it caused two ulcers in my stomach that ate through the staples of my bypass!
I then had to have a revision of my bypass to repair all the damage from the ulcers!  That surgery was in April, 2008 and I have lost about 40 pounds since then. I only want to lose about 20 more pounds to be totally ecstatic!

I am not trying to sound negative, just grateful that I am still alive and much thanks to my Doctor for keeping me alive.  I am still glad I had the surgery and would encourage anyone who is overweight to seek advice on having it done.

If anyone out there has had similar experiences I would be delighted to hear from you.
