My Sleep Study

Feb 06, 2007

I had my sleep study done on Feb. 3 2007. It was a hour drive for me. So I get there and the tech was waiting on me. We go in to the room where I was going to sleep that night and he starts telling me what he was going to do and what things he would be looking for. I was worried that I may not be able to go to sleep(or stay a sleep) in a strange place.
Boy was I wrong I think, I fell a sleep within 30 minutes or so. I did have a problem with staying a sleep though. My legs were hurting and I did snore all night. (tech said I did).
Next morning, the tech comes in to let me know that testing is over and that I could get dress to go home. We talked a little about what happen and then we talked about the “mask” and which kind would I prefer? Well he is not a Dr so he told me that I would have to wait until the results were in and that he was just preparing me for what could happen. (may need to do a 2nd sleep study)
Over all it was not as bad as I though it was going to be. Pretty nasty stuff on my head where he had to put the wire and me and tape don’t get along very well but the gooey stuff did washed out! So all in all it went fine. Now I am just waiting on the results.

Well I am back from all the labs that they needed.  They did just about anything they could do. They took blood and urine. I had a chest x ray. I took a breathing test, peddled on a bike with a huge mask on my face.(stress test)
(Looked like a alien I am sure) I think this is the replacement for the tread mill. Took another kind a heart test and then gave me the talk about not smoking…..and talk to me about Chantix, which I am ok with. I want to quite smoking. I also met with my LPC b/c I had a little time in between all the test.  Dr Bray also wants me to go have a sleep study done so we made an appointment with Dr Smith and that will be next week.
(only b/c I snore like a freight train) lol…..
I thought that this all day doctors appt. would be one of the longest days I would have and I was wrong. Everyone that I met that day was great, all the way from the receptionist to the male nurse and up to the very Doctor. Very nice people and some even laughed a little that day. All in all my long day at the doctors’ office went well.

1st Step to the rest of my life....

Jan 19, 2007

I am back from my consultation with Dr Bryce. Whew.. It went well, he told me that I would be a great candidate for the lapband. So we schedule my appointments with Dr Bray (internal med’s) and Dr. Claggett (LPC) all for Jan 24, 2007. Wow…. I am on my way now. I am so excited that this is going to happen. I know that I have to wait on Insurance to approve me but that’s ok I am one step closer to being on the “Band “Wagon.

I have to get labs, EKG, Stress Test and some other test I forgot the name of. I will also visit with my new “Licensed Professional Counselor” I liked her so far. She seems to be very nice. Who knows what will happen after our visit.

Did I say I AM ON MY WAY........Woo hoo.....
who would have thought that today would have been the first day to the rest of my life.

1st Consultation ...

Jan 18, 2007

I went to my regular Dr. got my pass history, went to the pharmacy and got a print out of all med’s I have taken over the passed few years. I filled out the packet that I got at the seminar trying to remember all the dates and meds.   I think that I am ready for my first consult tomorrow.

Here I am all ready to have my first visit with Dr Bryce tomorrow morning and it may rain/sleet/snow later today. I may have to cancel and reschedule for another day. But, hey I live in Texas so the weather could change any minute, but I am well prepared for the weather too….winter coat…goulashes….umbrella....and sunscreen. I think I have everything.

Forgot to note, I now have another date with Dr. Bryce. Jan 19, 2007. Now I feel like this journey is officially started. I will post to keep my self and everyone else up dated. Because one day I am going to want to look back at this journey and say:
“ I HAVE DONE IT, & LOOK AT HOW I HAVE.”

I have called my insurance to see if any changes have been made to our policy. To my surprise she told me that changes have been made. Well….could you please tell me what they are. This is what it covers: They are now going to treat WLS as any other surgery. OK what does that mean I ask, gosh I hate anticipation….so at this point she proceeds to tell me what the cost would be. I will have a $1000 deductible up front and then (BCBS) would cover 80% and then my part would be 20%. Wow….what a change from last year. It was $1000 deducible and they would only cover up to $4000 per calendar year. That means that I would have been a self pay. Imagine my surprise! I was so excited to call the doc’s office that I forgot to ask any thing else at that point. So the call was in, and the WLS office told me that I should fax over a copy of the new card and that they would call the insurance and gets the ball rolling again. WOW WOW WOW

In the begining....

I started this journey back in Sept of 2006 after about a year of looking into and reading everything I could get my hands on about WLS.  I had new insurance and so I was learning the entire concepts of it. I went to a seminar with Dr Bryce in Rowlett on Oct 12, 2006. Wow, I am so ready for this “helping tool” The BAND. Made an appointment then to have a one on one consultation with the doctor, wow I was really on my way this time.  It was set for Nov 19, 2006. So at this point I called the doctor that I have seen for many years and asked if she would gather all my passed attempts of weight loss.  Get them together for me that I was interested in doing the Lapband.  Well low and behold I cancelled the appointment with the WLS doctor b/c I heard that our insurance was changing the first of the year on how they would cover the WLS. Hey, what’s another month or so? I have waited all my adult life what another month or so if it will save me a grand or so.. The big difference was going to be the money that I was going to have to come up with out of pocket.
