21 year update
Jul 22, 2023
Good morning everyone.
In April 2002, I had Open RNY by Dr. Paul Macik. I weighed over 250 pounds on a 5'2 frame. I currently weigh between 110-114 pounds.
I do not regret having the surgery. but, if I'd known back then what I know now...I became prediabetic about two years ago, with an a1c of 5.7. Eating a lot of fat causes diabetes and heart disease not carbs. Now, I am on a whole foods plant based lifestyle. I do not take any medication except for my B12 and bariatric vitamins. I digress.
I do want to share something very important for everyone that has had an RNY. 50% of RNY has/had dumping. And it only appears on people that had an RNY. I did dump, which was good for me. But there is a very rare condition that I have because of the RNY. It's called: Postprandial hypoglycemia. (low blood glucose). I really have to pay attention to what I eat, because I can go into a coma and die. I still abide the rules of the pouch, but now I have to force myself to eat.
Hope this helps
Take care, Teresa
