I have been perusing this site for over a year.  I have gotten lots of encouragement and advice just by reading the stories of so many OH members, but I was reluctant to becoming a member myself.  Just recently I decided to officially become part of the OH family.  So, I guess it's my turn to tell my story.  My story is probably similar to all the other stories posted here.  I' m not sure where to begin, so I'll just start with who I am.  I am 44 years young.  I began having major weight issues in my early twenties.  It's been a constant struggle ever since.  I've tried numerous diets to only fail at them.  It wasn't until my early thirties did I see the devastion that obesity can cause.  After the birth of my first son I discovered that I had type II diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol.  After hearing about WLS from my coworker, I began to do some research on my own.  I wasn' quite sure if I wanted to take the WLS route but what I knew is that it was time to make a change for improving my health and my life.  Well after praying, researching, and praying some more I decided to at least proceed with the preliminary process.  So, I met with the surgeon, nutritionist, and psycholoist and I still was not 100% sure if I would go through with WLS.  Meanwhile, I dedided not to share any of this with my family and friends because I wanted my decision to be just that "My Decision."  I continued to be very prayerful asking GOD to direct my footsteps.  I felt a strong siritual connection to GOD and knew everything would be just fine.  It wasn't until I got aproved by my health insurance and given a surgery date (June 4, 2007) that I decided O.K. "Lets Do This."  Two weeks prior to surgery I told my family about my decision and my reasons.  To my surprise NOT one of them tried to talk me out of it.  They were very supportiv and have continued to support me along this life long journey.  I had laparoscopic RNY surgery on Monday, June 4, 2007.  Surgery and recovery went fairly well.  GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME AND ALL THE TIME GOD IS GOOD!  To GOD I give ALL the GLORY!

Happy New Year OH members.  Whew!  I made it through Thanksgiving and Christmas without indulging in the traditional feasts.  I thought it would be difficult since this was my first holiday season post op, but I managed to stick to my game plan.  Yeah!  My game plan is to eat for nourishment and not socially.  I didn't make any New Years Resolutions this year. I plan to stick to my game plan and make better choices in what I eat, drink, and how much I exercise.  I commit to LOVING ME!

I wish all OH members a Happy, Blessed and Successful New Year!
