I've been overweight my entire life!   I was over 100lbs in grade school and around 250 in high school.    I was always the funny girl and that saved me alot of teasing I suppose, because being fat never really bothered me untill around 10 years ago.
I started noticing there were things I couldn't do... like Amusement park rides, certain boothes in restarants ... things like that.
Well time went on and I continued to lose then gain (always with a bonus amount).    I finally got a job with insurance that said it would cover a bipass!   I was thrilled!    Went to the ceminar.. met with the doctor... started the diet process ... and was then disapointed
The insurance wanted 3-5 years of documented weight loss attempts ... and due to my lack of insurance I hadn't been to a doctor in years!
I was crushed and honestly I gave up.         Time passed ... and the weight piled on... a good 100 pounds.      Well that along with my arthritis made it impossible for me to continue working.
Soon my Doctor put me on disability which in turn resulted in my loss of job and insurance
As most of you know .. you have to be on disability for 2 years before Medicare kicks in ... lovely isn't it?
Well I did my time waiting and being housebound for the most part because it was just too painful to walk anywhere ... even out to my truck!
I was about 5 minutes away from being completely bed ridden!!!
Well as soon as my Medicare kicked in ... a friend drug me out to another WLS seminar.
That is where I met Dr. Wilson and he explained several surgeries ... including the Duodenal Switch (DS)!!!      This wasn't offered to me by the last Dr. I had seen!     To me, it was a no brainer!!   The results (on paper) seemed significantly greater and the risk was only slightly higher than the RNY!       Honestly at that point the risk could have been through the roof and it still would have appealed to me because I wasn't living anyways.
The next few months flew by ... I had to stop smoking and lose 8 whole pounds!   lol  I was 408 and he wanted me under 400 for surgery.
I did stop smoking (FINALLY!!!) and made it through the holidays and still lost my silly little 8 pounds!   lol in fact I lost 13lbs so pfftt !!!
On January 14th I weighed 395 and Dr. Wilson did his very first DS!!!!    He told me there was a posibility that he might not be able to get the whole proceedure done at one time... that scared me alittle because I was soooo ready for it to all be done.
When I woke up .. first thing I asked was "did he do the whole thing?"     I cried when they told me yes.... I cry now remembering.
Dr. Wilson Saved my life!!!
Now I'm on the DS ride of my life ... and if you can hang on tight .. your welcome to come along
