My story starts in February of 2010 when I went to the Dr. to complain about hip and back pain that didn't seem to be getting any better with Chiropractic care and since Chiropractic had been cut from my insurance, I would not be going anymore to even relieve pain temporarily.  The Dr. asked me if I wanted some pills, I explained I wanted some therapy or knowledge.  She sent me to a back care class and that really helped.  Dealing with back pain my whole adult life, I would have thought I knew it all.  During that visit, I asked her about gastric bypass.  That started the process with Kaiser.  I attended an information class and after, I called her office to advance to the next step.  She sent the referral.
Since my husband had attended the orientation the previous year, he had the preoperative meal plan and some of the tools and tips to be successful.  Late in February, I stopped eating fast food, chewing gum and drinking soda.  I started eating better.  One March 30, I attended the orientation and weighed in at 299.9!
On March 31, 2010 I met my surgeon Dr. Baggs.  After he looked me over and we considered all the surgery options, I choose gastric bypass.  He told me I had a good liver and to loose 10 pounds.
Over the next 2 weeks, I got cleared by the psyc and had some lab work done.
On May 3, 2010 I had passed my 10 pound goal and met with the case manager and received my May 17th surgery date.
On May 6th, I passed a physical and attended 2 more classes, one about post op and one about the importance of my vitamins.
On May 7th I met the surgeon for the pre-op appointment and passed some blood work.
On May 14th 2010 I graduated from college and got the call for my surgery check in time.
11:30am on May 17th 2010, I arrived at Kaiser Richmond and weighed in at 275 and had gastric bypass.

Since surgery, I have felt better everyday.  My family, husband and kids have been very supportive and I can't be happier to be healthy and not have as much pain in my back and hips.
