Altered State

Mar 09, 2007

I often think about all the people that have been "altered" on the inside. Apparently the number of people that are getting some form of Bariatric surgery is increasing rapidly every year. If that is so, why don't I meet one of them or more on a daily basis? Or, more importantly, why do I still have to explain everything about the medical and nutritional needs of a WLS patient to every medical professional I come into contact with? Even the basic stuff about protein and water are new to some of them.

Most recently I've discovered how badly the RNY affected my medication absorbtion. I already knew the extended release stuff wouldn't really work for me. It was a shock to find out that the regular version of my Wellbutrin at the highest dose was only absorbing at 8%. When I think about the amount of money I spent on different meds and the months that ran into years of time I lost to depression I could just scream. I want to yell this at the medical professionals that don't know this stuff already. I want to bombard pharmaceutical companies with letters and phone calls to tell them that someone has to do something about this. For that matter, this would be a huge money making pool for them. There are tons of us that would benefit greatly from meds made just for us, and we have to take special meds for life! OK, now someone else get a big idea from this and go make some money.....

Anyway, I'm just writing this quickly at almost 1am in the morning and I'm tired now. My husband actually said he was tired too, so I'm gonna leave this as is and maybe edit later.

Night all.....
