I have struggled with overeating and my weight all my life. After having my first child at 19, I went over 200 lbs and never have been under that. I truly believed that I would not live to see 50, partly due to  my weight and unhealthy habits, but here I am turning 52 today, and just begining a healthier lifestyle.

After my physical in January 2017, I learned that I had turned the corner from pre-diabetic to actual Type 2. It was time to get serious about health. I started exploring weightloss surgery and began the journey. The six months of prep time my insurance company required was worth every day of learning, and I began my new life right away. Although surgery did not happen until October 18, I was working on healthier attitudes and eating.

A few weeks before surgery I was working on finding a mental image that would keep me motivated. I just could not see anything that worked, mostly because I could not vision myself at a healthy weight. I had done this same thing when I quit smoking almost 18 years ago, and still reflect on that image when I have those odd ball cravings after all these years. One night, I woke up crying after a dream that I was outside with my three grandchildren playing, and running. Me.. running!!! Theese three little ones are the light of my life, and although we have fun when together, I had never visioned myself actually running as they get older (I can still out run a 4 year old, but not for long! They keep on going!!) This dream is what has kept me motivated and determined. In the dream, I was still overweight (Still working on my own imagining), but I was able to run with them!

Since surgery, I have been off my oral diabetic medications and feeling great. There is hope that I can remain off them. Life just keeps on getting better, and as my spouse and I used for a motto when we got married, "the best is yet to come!"
