Merry Christmas to All!

Dec 26, 2008

Well, here we are at the end of 2008 (Thank Goodness!)  It's been a very hard year, starting with my Gastric Bypass and a death in the family and gone downhill from there.  But, "that which does not kill me makes me stronger."  I think I'm going to be strong as an ox in 2009!

Well, despite the hardships, the weight has come off at an amazing rate.  I'm 10.5 months out of surgery and I am down 160 pounds!!!!  I have 41 more to go, but it's an amazing feeling to see the scale move down instead of up!

I hope everyone has/had an amazing holiday and achieves all their hopes, dreams and goals in 2009!

9+ Months...Still Losing...But Slowly

Nov 27, 2008

I'm about 9.5 months out and down 149.5 lbs.  I feel so much better and am so much happier!  I knew this time would come, but the weight loss is slowing down a bit.  I've got 51.5 lbs to go.  It's really amazing how much more engery I have.  I've quite excited that at 35 I weigh less than I did when I graduated high school!

7+ Months and still losing (Thank Goodness!)

Sep 19, 2008

Wow...it's been over 7 months, I'm down 139 lbs....about 62 to go!  It's been an amazing ride.  When I started this journey, I hoped that I would be successful, but scared that I wouldn't.  Again, all I can say is WOW!  I could only dream about losing this kind of weight.  While it has been a hard trip (so far) due to a few complications, I would suggest/recommend and beg anyone that was in the same condition I was (morbidly obese) to be brave and take this step.  You will be amazed how quickly you remember how you "used to be" or how you want to be and feel younger everyday!  I feel younger at 35, than I did at 25 and know I weigh a lot less!  :)

4 months and counting....

Jun 13, 2008

Well, it's been 4 months (on 6/11) since my surgery.  I am absolutely amazed at how well things have progressed.  I have lost 106 pounds in that 4 months!!!  That's an average of 26.5 pounds a month!  I have about 95 pounds to go.  I have lost 5 sizes in clothes and wear a size I have not been in since college.

After my strictures were corrected, I am feeling much better.  I'm not having any stomach-related problems other than I have no appetite!  (No, I'm not complaining!)  :)  I am really stunned at how little I eat now compared to my previous life.  Things are so much better and I'm so much healthier!

I visited my primary care doctor for a check up and bloodwork, I went from 7 prescriptions a day to 1 and I stayed on it by choice!  My cholestrol went from about 275 to 150 in 3 months and I have gone off my cholestrol meds.  I have been on thyroid medication for hypothyroid for nearly ten years.  The doctors told me that I would continue having to take that medication but when they checked my levels, they can find no sign of a thyroid problem and I was able to come off that medication as well.

For anyone who is considering this surgery, GO FOR IT!  It will change your life for the better!  I will try to post new pictures soon.  I am still amazed when I look in the mirror or try on clothes!

9 weeks and 1 day....

Apr 14, 2008

Well, it is getting easier.  I am finally over the main complications (I think!)    I'm feeling better and starting to walk for excerise everyday,  At 9 weeks, I've lost 71 lbs and 13.4 points in BMI.  It's nice to see results and I hate to see it slow down.  It's amazing how quickly you "shrink" out of clothes at this pace but I'm still loving it!

To those considering surgery and want to take their lives back (like I did), this really does work!  Just stick with it!

Almost 9 weeks Post-Op

Apr 11, 2008

I'm nearing 9 weeks post-op and am down 67.5 lbs.  I'm feeling better finally.  I had another stricture and had to have another endoscopy, but so far it seems like this is working.  The crazy thing is, I still have no appetite.  Which is kinda funny to me because I have always had a good (too good) appetite, so not being hungry is nice for a change.

6-weeks Post Ops

Mar 24, 2008

WOW...it's been 6-weeks today since I had my surgery.  It has been an amazing change so far.  53 pounds off.

I had some complications -- the worst being a stricture.  I was constantly nausous and could not hold food down, so the doctor did an endoscopy.  The connection between my stomach and my intenstine was suppose to be 12mm, they found that mine was 3mm.  Once they opened that up, eating became MUCH easier.  No more sick stomach or vomitting.  What a relief.

Also had major abdominal muscle spasms, but they have worked themselves out and I am feeling great again!

I was so concerned about what to eat, will I be hungry, etc before surgery.  That has been no problem.  I have NO appetite.  Most days I struggle to get the 400-600 calories that the doctor recommended in!

I'll have new pictures up soon.  It's fun to see clothes look good that haven't fit in years!
