New Year, New Attitude!

Jan 02, 2008

Things have been going great around here.  I am 5 months post op and have lost a total of 32 lbs.  I am down from a size 20 to a size 16 and feel really really good!

I am sure that with a little more effort and exercise I could have lost more weight, but I am happy so far with the results that  I have had.  I feel healthy and can see the difference in my body.

When I decided to have the surgery I made the decision not to tell most people about it.  Of course my husband and best friend knew (she had hers one week before me) and I have stuck with that for the most part.  I am glad that I didnt tell everyone and then had to deal with feeling like they were watching what I ate or how much weight I was losing.. I hate pressure like that.  This has worked well, BUT.. I did have one episode where I got stuck at a holiday party (my house) and had to RUN to the bathroom and almost spewed like a volcano on the way (eww I know but it happened).  Fortunately, no one really knew what was happening and thought I was coughing while drinking or something.. whew.  So I have to be really careful with those situations.  I ate something I shouldnt have and didnt stop when I needed to and drank to try to get it to go down.. big mistake.

The choice to tell others is a personal one, everyone makes that decision themselves.  My theory was that I could always tell them after the fact but you can 'unring a bell' once its rung.  :)

I will try to keep this thing updated more often.  If you are just getting ready to have surgery and want some tips or to know about my journey feel free to message me!

ONE WEEK POST OP!

Aug 10, 2007

Wow, this has been a loooong week.  Seems like forever ago that I had my surgery but its actually been exactly one week.

For those of you that are behind me on your surgery, I will let you know one thing.. no need to worry.  I had my gallbladder removed at the same time so according to my Dr I would have more pain than normal.  The first day I felt like someone had punched me in the gut, the second day I slept off and on all day and each day thereafter has gotten MUCH better.    I will say that it is sooo important to use the Gas-x strips everytime you take your pain meds and always take your pain meds when it says you can regardless of how you feel.  That was my theory and I know that it helped me get past the bad days.. why suffer thru when you can ease them by with the meds?  thats what its given to you for.  Oh yes, the other thing that really helped was that I had a heating pad with me at all times.. I kept it on low on my tummy and if my shoulder hurt from gas or something I would use it there.  For 6 days I didnt go anywhere in the house without it.  I borrowed my daughers and my friends so with mine I had three connected in different areas of the house.  I highly recommend it!   gotta walk too, I didnt feel like it but made myself get up at least once per hour to pace from the livingroom to the kitchen and back.  the first couple days I could hardly wait to get  back to the couch and went as fast as I could to get back and suddenly by like day 4 I felt like I would rather stand up for a while than sit down... good feeling

Anyway... went for my post op today and lost 9 lbs!  I was thrilled!  I cant tell you how much of a difference one week makes, I felt fantastic today, really good.

Im still on full liquids this week, was hoping to be moved to mushies but my Dr. makes you wait till week 3 for that.  I have found that cream soups are actually pretty good.  I made a big pot of potato soup that has carried me thru pretty well.  I dont do any sugar free stuff because the artificial sweetener seems to upset my stomach but the Dr. said that now is just a healing phase and not to be concerned with low fat and sugar free at this point.  Oh yeah.. bought that Magic Bullet thing for blending / puree'ing food... THAT THING IS AWESOME!  since I can only have creamed / full liquids, i put some chili from wendy's in it the other day for like 2 seconds and it smoothed that stuff right out, I know it sounds gross, but it tasted the same and it was something new to change up the routine.  This next week I plan to get creative because you can really get sick of liquids..

Since Im feeling so much better, I do plan on starting some kind of exercise this next week.  Gotta be indoors though because it is hotter than Hooo outside here in Florida, I think the heat index is like 110 or something.  I bought one of those dance dance revolutions for the PS2 (okay so Im a kid at heart) and do the beginners "girls just wanna have fun" one and although its really easy its definately a work out.  the other thing that works is that you just know you can do it better so you try a few times and before you know it you've worked up a sweat.. yeah thats what Im gonna start next week...

I hope that anyone reading this will get something good from it.  I know that before my surgery I read alot of posts from people to see about their experiences.  Please feel free to message me if you want more info.. otherwise, I will try to update this thing as often as I can and one day do some photos.

4 days and a wake up!!

Jul 29, 2007

Well, here I am just four days and a wake up from my lap band surgery!  I am very excited and anxious at the same time.  My best friend had her lapband surgery done 5 days ago and stayed with us during the first few days of her recovery so I know what to expect.   In a  way I was nervous about that because if she struggled it would definately make me more nervous, but fortunately she did really well!

Sooooo, Friday morning I will make my way to the outpatient surgery center to arrive at 7am for an 8am surgery.  I will do my best to keep this blog updated and hopefull it will help to share my story with others.  I know that it REALLY helped me to read the stories of people who went before me!

Good luck to everyone considering WLS and God Bless you all!
