Well, Let's see.... I'm 42, divorced, mom of 2 teenagers, RN @ OSU, owner of 5 (YES FIVE) dogs, and live in Newark, Ohio. I've been at OSU for almost 3 years. Prior to that, I worked at the local community hospital for 17 years.
So, here I am. It's been almost 2 years since I started this process. I started at 280# with blood sugars anywhere from 200 to 325 and Ha1C was 7.8. My blood pressure was 150/90's. I lost about 20# more or less in the last year and a half. That has helped bring my blood sugars to mostly normal, 100-130. My last Ha1C was 6.9. But my blood pressure is still high-ish at 130/90. I usually weigh 260 on any given day, although it fluctuates +/- 2-4 #.
My goal is to weigh 160-165 after surgery. I'm not sure if that is realistic or not, but it sounds like a good number. I know I will have to work hard to get down there.
I have 2 kids. A son who is 17 and thinks he knows more than any one person, living or dead. He's a great kid, though, I think. He's into Civil War re-enacting. A daughter who is 14 and is queen of the internet. I also have 5 dogs, 4 of whom are mixed breeds from the pound (Oh WHY do I have to go and "just have a look"???) and one Golden Retriever. They are my "babies" now that the kids are older.
