I am a 56 year-old librarian in Southern California.  Having been fighting my weight since I was  in junior high, I've tryed everything out there:  Weight Watchers, half of Phen-Fen (when I was on it they'd banned one), Nutrisystem (twice), Lindora, Opti-fast, and every diet that came down the pike.  It was a see-saw: up & down.  Mostly up.  When I reached almost 260 pounds I decided enough was enough.  So I've made the move toward bariatric surgery.  After talking to my PCP she reommended me for the program

This Thursday will be my 8th week of the three month Options class required by Kaiser for bariatric surgery. They put in orders for the standard lab tests & EKG last week & I got them done today. So things are moving along. We were told that after the Options class it would take 2 or 3 weeks to before getting the consultation appointment with the surgeon. I will be having the Roux en Y surgery and will be going to Dr. Suh in Murrieta.

At his seminar last week Dr. Suh said the surgeries are usually 1 - 2 months after the consultation. Which works out, since as a children's librarian June & July are my busiest time of year what with Summer Reading Program and all of the other special programs we do. So hopefully I will be having my operation in August.

I found this site today and joined.  Along with local support groups, I think the people posting here will be of great help and support.  I'll have to get a picture done to put up.
