I have come a long way! I'm soon to be 55 years of age and I have to say I feel better than I have in years! At my heaviest, I weighed 335 lbs. I developed diabetes, heart disease, (CHF) severe joint, bone, and muscle pain, chronic breathing problems due to asthma, to name a few. For the last 20 years, all my doctors kept telling me to lose the weight. So, I did lose some and gain double back everytime. I became ill and had a heart attack in Jan. 2002. That was a wake-up call for me. I checked into gastric bypass surgery in 2004, but the doctor felt that I was too high of a risk with all of my medical problems. So, I ended up being very limited in my daily activities. Something had to change, or I was going to die. Well, I'm here today 135 lbs lighter, and much healthier, due to gastric bypass (RNY) that I had in Nov 2007. The amount of insulin I take now has drastically been reduced and I'm looking forward to the day when I don't have to take insulin at all! MY BP is good, cholestrol is good, and I feel great. I am so thankful to be able to walk and workout without getting short of breath! There's other benefits, too like shopping for smaller size clothes! To be given a tool like the RNY and simple instructions on how to use it...Priceless!
