Fantastic Links I've Found! [ongoing blog]

Oct 08, 2008

They really should have an area on our profiles just to share links we come across, whether it be recipes, obesity articles, or miscellaneous finds like this first one I'm sharing!

MY VIRTUAL MODEL
Was actually doing searches for weight-loss related avatars when this cool site appeared:
"
http://www.mvm.com/en/shopping/weightloss.php." Imagine trying on jeans or a swimsuit and knowing whether those items fit without struggling, straining, or dripping one bead of sweat?! Plus, being able to look ahead to your next weight loss goal, or the one after that!! Very cool indeed.

PREVENTION'S WEIGHT LOSS SIMULATOR
http://prevention.com/tryiton
Don't even need to use Photoshop or PSP for using this avatar program, even though it was designed by the same folks in the above info. Sadly, the avatar's highest starting/current weight is 350 pounds. Granted, a lot of WLS patients do weigh a lot less than I certainly once thought was allowable, but it would still be nice to include the "M.O." or "SuperSized" among us!

Will just have to return to this particular blog area in my profile to log new sites as I stumble upon them. That way they'll be in one place, for the most part anyway!

Yes, I am back to add a few more links, at least until I can move this blog off OH and onto my own domain where there won't be censorship. For the most part I'll leave most related comments to myself (for now anyway). Just have always thought when it came to our health, and most assuredly our life (literally), honesty would always be the best policy. Evidently a few folks here don't think so; must be why a lot of folks stop posting to their blogs or move them off here.

But anyway ... here's some additional helpful links:

EXPLORING THE USE OF MINDFUL EATING
http://bariatrictimes.com/2007/12/10/exploring-the-use-of-mindful-eating-training-in-the-bariatric-population/
Sure wish someone had pointed this article out to me month ago! This should be a "must read" for anyone going through bariatric surgery. Check out this complete publication actually, a lot of truly important information to be found here.

ONLINE DISCUSSION GROUPS TO JOIN
Granted, there's probably about as many online groups as tere are opinions, with the same definition about opinions being like (you know what! LOL) ... but for those looking around, here's some alternatives:

Yahoo Groups: http://groups.yahoo.com/phrase/bariatric-eating, and also: http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=obesity%2Bsurgery. You can also do a search for various keywords such as "Gastric Bypass," "Lapband," etc. Also, check out the group "Bandsters" if it applies to your surgery.

Google Groups: http://groups.google.com/groups/search?q=Gastric+Surgery&btnG=Search&sitesearch=groups.google.com, and also: http://groups.google.com/groups/search?q=Post+Bariatric+Surgery&btnG=Search&sitesearch=groups.google.com. Same thing applies to searching as with the Yahoo groups above.

Other Online Support Groups:

* http://www.thinnertimesforum.com/groups/

* http://dailystrength.org/c/Gastric-Bypass-Surgery/support-group (You can also search for lapband, etc.)

* Main GOOGLE search result: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=s5&oq=Bariatric%20support&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4TSHB_enUS231US231&q=bariatric+support+groups+online

Okay, that's it for now!
