My name is Tania Foreman. I am 21 years old and am from Connecticut. I currently weigh in at 295 and have been fighting this thing called obesity since I can remember. I have gone on many, many diets and have been successful in my attempts. However, the pounds lost eventually became pounds gained back.  I'm seeing this is pretty much a normal thing from reading other profiles on OH. At the same time this doesn't make me feel any better about it. Anyway, I have been researching WLS for quite some time now and finally came to the decision that this was my last resort. I'm tired of going to my mom's house and hearing when are you gonna do something about your weight or you never had all that fat around your stomach. It's aggravating!!!!!!!!! I know she claims she tells me this for my health, but I'm like do you think I'm not capable of looking in the mirror. So now here I am looking for a way to get out of this body that I've grown to hate. I went to a WLS seminar a couple of months back that was being given by a surgeon named Dr. Geoffrey Nadzam. He seemed to be very personable and it was quite informative. Some of the things he spoke about I had already found out through the reseach I had done, however I did walk away with some very useful information. His office had us fill out paperwork and told us they would contact us to make appointments for consultations. They also said that there was a waiting list but they'd try to make the appointments as soon as possible. I got my call almost a month later. So I went for my consult with Dr. Nadzam and decided he was definitely my guy. He answered all my questions and told me that I was a good candidiate for the surgery. Next, I was told that I had to make an appointment with the psychiatrist and nutritionist. So I called them both and made appointments. So I met first with Chris Lodi, the psychiatrist, he asked me many questions about my eating habits, goals, and support system. After I answered his questions he informed me that I passed. I couldn't have been more ecstatic. Next, I met with the nutritionist, Diana Rosa. My boyfriend, Jose, came with me to this appointment to show his support. He is very supportive in everything I do. He loves me fat or skinny and stupid or smart. So getting back to my consultation with Diana, she asked me the same questions as Chris did. She then explained how I would have to eat after the surgery and then she explained the "infamous" ketosis diet. This the worst diet in the world but I have to suck it up and deal with it, BLAH!!! The date she gave me to start was 10/13/06, which just so happens to be on Friday the 13th. How convenient is that! ( : So anyway that's where I am now-in the ketosis stage of this journey. I'm three days into this thing and am miserable but I know it will be well worth the battle in the end. So I wish I could conclude my story, but technically I'm still in the beginning. Thank you to everyone for your words of support, it's greatly appreciated.
