I am now back home. Got released on Friday evening 3/4/05. My family was so excited about that. The kids had a real hard time with separation anxiety. As a family, we've never experienced a hospital situation before. Surgery went great. No complications. Gall bladder looking to good to take at the same time, and will do my best to keep it that way. Coming out of the anesthesia was another matter. Surgery was over at around 10:30 AM, and did not wake up sufficiently until 8PM in the evening. Stayed in ICU for 3 days for observation. Heart rate was up (160), sleep apnea discovered along with diabetes. Once back on my bp meds, heart rate adjusted. Follow up on sleep apnea and diabetes this week. GWU nurses were great in ICU. Very babied. had catheter for three days, also oxygen until I was released onto a real floor. I had a room on the regular floor for about 5 hours, and noticed the difference right away. Although good, not hovering over me. That was okay. I was ready to walk around and do my part to get home. My stomach tube was removed Friday evening. That was quite the adventure, but not something that I would like to do again. Not very painful, just a really weird feeling. Not sure how to explain it. Guess I was just scared. Got home around 8:30 PM to my mother who has been the best. My husband has to work, so having her around helps us all. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to email me. I'll update again later.

3/28/05 - Went to Dr. Lins for my 4 week check-up. Went well. BP down 133/72 and weight down -45. Unreal! Have to come back in one month.

3/31/2006 - One year checkup. My how time flies! Had my appointment and saw Denise, the nurse practitioner. She was very pleased with my progress. Down 149lbs. No hernias, but very thin abdominal muscles. Will have to keep close watch. Liver enzymes elevated, but only one out of the four numbers that they watch. That by itself is nothing to worry about. If elevated along with other numbers, they would be more concerned. Down to one BP med - low dosage of antacand. BP is beautiful! Life is good! So happy to have gotten this surgery. Now, have to work on getting my head to see what exactly my body is morphing into to. Still feel like the big girl at times, but it is getting easier to acknowledge my progress. Take care everyone!
