6 Months post op

May 07, 2009

Well I am down 24 more pounds. I feel great and still energetic as ever. All my blood work turned out fine so far all of my vitamin levels are normal. One of my protein levels is a little low but Doc say nothing to be alarmed about. He also said if I keep up what I am doing right now that he see no reason why I wont keep right on losing weight. I haven't cheated at all other than maybe I eat a little more crackers and stuff than I should. Cheese and crackers has been my safety food since the beginning. For some reason wheat crackers makes a lot of food stay down that I would normally get sick after eating. So I have to work on that. I am cutting out as much of that as possible and concentrating on getting my body use to more lean meats. Well I cant think of much more to say than that. I dont go back to the Doc for 6 months now but I will make it a point to post every few weeks in case someone actually does keep up with this and reads it  ??????!!!?!?!

5 Months post op

Mar 26, 2009

Well i have lost 30 more pounds since my last doctors vist thats a total of 114 in all. I feel great and have tons of energy. Half the time i dont know what to do with myself. I am almost half way to my goal and that feels good. My doctor says I am ahead of schedule and he is really proud of my progress. I am still walking 5 miles a week and I have started some weight lifting. Doctor say that may slow the weightloss down a lil but ill be building muscle mass so it evens out. I am a big guy even with out all the fat so with a 6 ft 5 frame I am sure i will be building a lot of muscle. Well not much else to say I prob wont update again until my next visit unless something drastic happens.

8 weeks post-op

Jan 08, 2009

I have lost 11 more pounds which makes a total of 66 pounds in 8 weeks. I am back at work now and i have plenty of energy. Eating is still a struggle at times with the solid foods. I tend to find my comfort foods and keep eating them because they don't make me sick when I know I need to be trying other things too. But I am taking it day by day and trying to get my protein in which is a lot harder than it looks when you wanna avoid the shakes. I have learned I like cottage cheese which is a big help. My wound is still open in one tiny spot but the doc says its still deep and its going to take time to close. That was a bummer I'm so tired of packing this thing i just want to be back to normal asap. I have been lifting dumbbells 5 days a week and taking stairs at work and considering I work on 4Th floor its hard to get 490 pounds up 4 flights of stairs. My doc says if I can get some cardio in with that I will be where I need to be. Well I am to go back in a month and I will post again then and let what few people see this thing know how I am doing. There should be something here that can tell you if your profile is being viewed or not. It would suck to think I ma writing all this for nothing lol. Oh well......

5 weeks post-op

Dec 18, 2008

55 pounds in five weeks I feel pretty good about that but i know i have a long way to go. What  I'm really feeling good about is my BMI has went down 7 points. Also I broke the 500 mark on the scale. It feels really good to not be that number anymore. Things are going OK I am still experimenting with solid foods. I have good days and bad days. I guess its like they say a trial and error type thing. All my shirts fit loose right out of the dryer. No more stretching things out lol. Pretty soon i think I will be ready for a 5XL instead of the 6XL.  All my pants are too big for me I have had to put 2 new holes in my belt and I have lost 6 - 8 inches off my waste. My pants size has gone form a 70 waste to a 62 so that's defiantly good. I still feel pretty weak sometimes but it defiantly is getting alot better as time goes on. I am set to return to work on Dec. 29Th. Well this time my next checkup is in 3 weeks so i will post an update then.

3 Weeks Post Op

Dec 04, 2008

I am down 45 pounds in 3 weeks. I am smaller than I have been in years but i have a long way to go. I hope this keeps up. I personally cant see a difference when I look at myself but my friends and family say then can really tell a difference. But I guess you cant just misplace 45 pounds so maybe its because i see myself everyday. My Doc says my wounds look good and everything is on schedule. I have to start my vitamins now and also start trying solid foods. My taste and smell is slowly coming back, it seems to get better everyday. Well that's all for now I have another appointment in 2 weeks I shall update again then.

10 days post op down 30 pounds

Nov 19, 2008

My first post op appt went well I have lost 30 pounds in 10 days. Wow that's a lot but I still have a long road. I am still on soft liquids for now. My next appt is in 2 weeks and we are supposed to talk about some solid food then. I asked the doc why everything tastes bad right now he said there is no real explanation that its happens in about 5% of gastric bypass patients and it will pass with time. I cant wait for that because right now everything sucks even my most favorite drinks.

Post Op update..

About the only thing I can say at this point is do not underestimate the amount of pain that is involved after the surgery especially during the hospital stay. My Surgery went really well so far there are no complications. I feel like I am getting a little better everyday so that is good. But let me tell you when they first woke me up I thought I was going to die. It was the worst pain i have ever been in in my entire life. It continued well into the second day before it began to get better. I consider myself in high tolerance for pain heck I passed 6 kidney stones all at once e few years ago. I would gladly do that again over this. Those of you considering doing this especially if they do it open. Prepare yourselves for a lot of pain those first few days.

Other than that I am doing OK. Nothing really seems to taste good right now. All the things like the soups and all I bought are very bland. About the only thing I am OK with is the fruit Popsicles sugar free of course. I feel like I have to gorge myself just to get enough fluids in me. Also my throat hurts all the time from the tube I guess even though its been a week its still very irritated. Don't get me wrong I know I am sounding negative. All I am trying to do is provide information for people to use so the know the whole story. I am sure all of these things will get better over the next few weeks and months and I will post all of the good with the bad.  My first weigh in will be Wed Nov. 19 I will post again then and we will see where I am on the scale.
