I am 49 years old and started my journey on 01/23/08 when I had RNY LAP AT 275#. I am a disabled psychiatric nurse. After 22 years working as a nurse my weight and fibromyalgia lead to other medical problems that made it impossible to continue working. I have three kids and 14 grandchildren. Iam married to my best friend and he is my greatest source of strength and motivation. I love animals and own a 13 year old fox hound and a tuxcedo cat. My goal weight is 150#. My biggest dream is to be able to ride my horse again someday. I sold him to a good friend and if my health ever allows it he will be waiting for me. This surgery has meant that I might get my life back to the active level it use to be. I am glad to find a support system for my adventure. I wasn't always overweight. As a teen and young woman I couldn't gain weight and didn't know how lucky I was. When I dated my husband I was 102# and very athletic. I bowled, golfed, rode horses, skated and danced. At age 25 I weighed 125# and got diagnosed with a pituitary tumor. I gained 80# in a year and the battle was on. In the next 20 years I had heart surgery for a hole in my heart, and numerous other medical problems and surgeries. Each medical incident added more weight and limited more activity. I changed from the small-framed woman I knew, to a face and body I didn't recognize in the mirror. My husband has had variety with me at every size from small to 5x clothes. I will be 50 in May but have the spirit of a much younger woman. Unfortunately I let my body get out of control completely and now it restricts me from movement. I packed 275# on a small bone structure. I have bad knees and my back hurts. I can't reach my feet or be involved in sports. I get tired when I try to play with my grandchildren. This surgery is my hope to recover the life I once had and enjoyed. I am not vain and looks are not as important to me as just being able to function and feel good again. When the extra weight is gone I will still have medical issues and I will be 50 but hopefully I will have a fighting chance without the liability of the weight.
