I went to my seminar and it was great for the most part. However the surgeon stated that my insurance would most likely not approve my surgery because they do not see this surgery as a preventive measure but yet as a way to fix ongoing health issues. My BMI is 35.1 according to them which would be ok but I don't have 2 qualifying health issues.
I'm just bummed for sure
He did say that I am a candidate and he would suggest that I have the surgery based on the issues I'm having but that he didn't believe my insurance would cover it. So I could of course get financed or pay cash. NOT
This is just not something I can do with a family of six of us right now.
I have decided that when my insurance becomes effective 12/01/09 that I will start seeing my primary care doc more frequently to at least start documenting some sort of weight issues.
I'm going to request that I have a sleep study to see if I have sleep apnea and be tested for diabetes and high blood-pressure as well. I have always been told oh your blood pressure is a little high..but the surgeon said I need to have that documented more than once and be prescribed medication.
Although I do not wish any of these health issues on myself, I just know that I can not be the perfect picture of health at the weight I'm.
I also told him about my knees and he said that the insurance normally only cares if I'm injured myself due to the weight...WHAT THE? I'm trying to take care of this before it gets outta hand.
Funny thing is if I gain 15 more pounds I automatically qualify with a BMI of 40. I just don't get it.
