Well it has been 10 days since i posted, but so far so good. I am down 16 lbs in 17 days since surgery. I am loving the fact that i do not have that damn port in me anymore. It feels great! I had a very easy after surgery recovery. Yesterday i started getting some pain in the tunny around the incesion area by the belly button. I called the dr and they said it is lots of healing goind on just pay attention to it , if it does not get better call them again. So it is still here some times when i bend over i feel like i am getting poked from the inside, maybe stitches?? not sure!

Until Later

April 7, 2008
I went camping for 2 days on day 3 from surgery and came back on day 4 started shakes on day 5 and it is day 6 and i still feel fantastic!! Tommorrowo will be one week from surgery and 6 months that i quit smoking. What a day for me!!!
I had had a few people ask me how do i know which surgery to choose and i am scared of re0routing my intestines(just as i was the first time around) and what i tell people isa little story!
I am going to tell you a story but i will make it quick. in Aug of 2005 i had lapband. it was my choice, my doctor told me i should consider the RNY because of the amount of weight i had to loose and i love chocolate, well i decided i wanted something less invasive so i did the band. Well now i just had my band removed because of slippage. And it was not because i did not do as i was susposed to. My body could not tolerate the band, the food no matter how small would make me puke, and it got worse with fills. I would get stuck to fill, then 30 minutes later stuck to get unfilled and on and on. You port has a long life of needle sticks , i believe 10000 or so, not positive, but at the rate i was going itwould need to be replaced before the life of my band expired. I lost under 80 lbs in 2 1/2 years with the band. (I also gained it ALL back plus 5 lbs after the slippage got worse, and this is with puking daily) I am post op 6 days and lost 10 lbs!!! The loss will slow down but it will not be adjusted and readjusted. (this was my main problem with the band because of fill unfill) Someone said slippage is with patients who dont follow dr's orders,However this is not true, slippage can occur even though you do follow orders!!!. Some people exercise and their skin is not any worse with bypass vs band, i believe and dr told me it is all in how YOU as the primary healthcare giver handles your life. Now for recover, my lapband i had pain and gas and was slow for about 2 weeks. Tommorrow will be one week for bypass and i have had NO pain, went camping for 2 days and was out of the hosoital the day after my surgery!!! I felt this was a blessing in the amount of time it took for me to feel ok. I would have been ok when i came into my room except for my back was killing me from being on that darm board!!! I wanted to walk immediatley after but they made me wait one hour, boy i was mad, i wanted out of that bed...Maybe i was lucky but i had it very easy. I never used pain meds once i got out of the hospital!!! The bypass can be reversed just as the band can be taken out. I know the day before my surgery i was asking myself if i was doing the right thing. Soul searching can also help. I KNEW i was making the right choice and i was just tired of puking. I used to cry from puking so much it was a nightmare, BUT not everyone has this problem. Just as not everyone has a problem with longer recover times, more pain etc with the bypass. Do what your heart tells you , not what your nerves tell you and you will make the right choice for you!

Well surgery was pretty easy for me. I guess i should thank my lucky stars for that one huh:) I was takin back at 6;10 am and went int preop, at 7:35 i was told this is your happy juice and i only remember them giving that to me and then being rolled out and being told to take a few deep breaths...Nothing else. The next thing i remember is walking up saying i need to get out of this bed, my back is killing me:) It was 11:15. They made me wait until 12 to get up. At 12 i was walking the halls and continued to walk them all night until i went home at 11 am the day after my surgery. So in on 4-1-08 home on 4-2-08 and feeling great. Today is 2 days after surgery and i feel pretty good, just a little soreness in the tummy and my back still hurts:) I had back problems prior and they about killed the back when i was on the board in surgery!!! I am drinking with no problems and walking, but still a little on the tired side so i do take naps when i lay down to watch TV:) Will talk more later:)

March 31, 2008
Hello all:) My name is Terri and i live in SLidell, La. I had lapband in aug 2005 in Mexico. Starting weight 273. I loved the hospital, the doctor and the hotel was even nice. My surgery was uneventful and relatively not too painful. I flew home the following day without many problems. In July 2007 i was done to 201. In August of 2007 i was having many problems with getting fills. I would get a fill to about 6.5 cc ( i have an 11 cc band) and not be able to swallow my own spit. Then we would unfill to 6.3 and be ok, 2 days later i would be able to eat anything, so back to fill again and again could not swallow spit...unfilled again...well this went on for a few weeks, then finally i was tired and just could NOT puke another time, much less 10 times in a day. So i was unfill completely and went to hawaii...whew what a relief but i still could not eat right, everything still got stuck but i could eat a little. So when i got back we did another ugi and finally found out my band had slipped. Well i have my port at my left side on my ribs, and lots of pain from puking so much so i decided i would have my port moved while getting my band fixed....So back to the insurnace company. denied moving my port...SO i decided crap on this i want a revision to RNY. I quit smoking and gained back to all of my weight  while waiting for my answer from the insurance company. Denied! i appealed it and my doctor and patient advocate worked so hard from Oct 2007 until Feb 2008 and finally i got a phone call from the dr office and they said Terri, we got the answer from the insurance co. and i am sorry..i started crying my eyes out....she said i am sorry stop...i was saying i am sorry it took so long but we got you approved.....WOW i am dancing!!! My date was only 3 weeks away April 1, 2008 was my day!!! Today is March 31...the day before my surgery and here i am working on this , i believe to keep my mind off of everything else:)
