This is a lonnnnnng process

Jan 22, 2010

I really hoped to have the surgery by now.  It seems there are so many hoops to jump through.  I still have appointments scheduled all the way through April.  Surgery will now have to be pushed back to late June or early July.  UGHHH.

The good news is I have lost some weight on my own.  I even survived the Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Year's holidays without putting back on a pound.  I didn't lose any extra during that time, but even maintenance during the holidays is encouraging.  I also no longer have to take blood thinners.  The coumadin always scared me---it is rat poison afterall.

I am considering the gastric sleeve instead of the BPD-DS.  It is safer and I could always do the second stage later.  I know the sleeve alone won't be enough because I would hate to have the surgery and still weigh well over 300 because the sleeve surgery only averages about 50% of excess weight loss.  I know Dr. Vollenger would prefer to do the sleeve because of my extremely high BMI.  However, I really want to go the full distance with BPD-DS and experience the full weight loss potential.  Hopefully, I will lose all of the extra weight to lower my BMI to the point he will feel comfortable doing the DS surgery.

Thank you to inofwls and all the others offering support and advice!
