Well let me begin my story. I am a 33 yr old mother of one girl who is 9 years old going on 21 (lol). All my life I have been overweight. As a child, as a teenager and now as an adult. After I had my daughter back in 1997, I did lose some weight but still was considered morbidly obese. I began researching wls and finally decided to make a consultation back in 2005. My first consult was at Barix Clinic. They were very nice and informative but insurance wouldn't cover the procedure. I had to go on medicaid because of financial and personal problems that I was having so I thought that I would try another shot at it. I made a consultation with Dr. Curry because I had heard so many good things about him. I went to my consultation and was really impressed with him and his staff. They were wonderful to say the least. We submitted the papers to the insurance and once again I was denied. Because of several things going on in my life at the time mainly my father passing away, I decided not to try and appeal it at the time. I have spent time researching wls and viewing this website constantly hoping to get a chance to go forward with the surgery and have a chance at a better and healthier life. I have since gotten a good job but guess what, my insurance has a written exclusion that cannot be gone around that will not under no circumstances cover the surgery. So I have decided to self pay. It will be tight for a while financially but all I think about is how much better my life will be. I have a wonderful supporting husband who is behind me 100%. I have emailed Dr. Curry's office and am waiting to hear back from them about setting up another consultation and hopefully getting a date set soon after. I have decided to go with a Lap Band because of it being less invasive and I just feel is the better way for me to go. So that is my story in a nut shell. Any advice or recommendations or information from anyone who is going through it now or who has gone through it would be great. I'll keep you posted.
