A year and a day out and thrilled with where I am at....

Oct 23, 2011

I can't believe this year has gone by so fast!  I have lost 135 lbs since surgery and am now a size 14 down from a 28/30.  AT 5'10" I think that is pretty great and not sure how much more I want to loose. I feel fantastic.  I feel so blessed to have not had complications from surgery and would do it again in a heartbeat.  It is kind of funny when people call me skinny and I think ' who are you looking at?" but then again it is a huge change from 1 year ago.  I had lost about 40 lbs prior to surgery so things have really changed.  Just wanted to drop in and give an update.  Glad that my body and my mind are healthy!  I will try and post some pictures soon.

6 months today!!!

Apr 22, 2011

This has been such a crazy week at work I hadn't even thought about the significance of this Friday.  I came home completely exhausted and then it struck me, today it has been 6 months since my surgery.  I got on that scale and couldn't help but smile.  I have officially lost 100 lbs since surgery.  I can't believe how fast this time has gone.  I think about all of the things I am doing now that I wouldn't have even considered 6 months ago.  I feel so much better about myself in my day to day life, I am more confident at my job, and just all the way around feel in a much better place.
All my labs came back great and my hair is already starting to thicken again.

Never thought I would have this problem.......

Apr 03, 2011

I never know if the clothes I take out of the closet are going to fall off of me or not!  I have now started to keep a give away bag located right by the clothes.  I never thought I would have this problem!  I actually bought and could put on a size 18!  I have not been a size 18 in 15 years!  When I would go shopping before it was about buying something because they actually had a 28/30 and sometimes a 30/32 and now I have choices!  It was easier to shop before with less choices, but I will take it.
On a side note, I think the hair loss has really slowed down and when I got my hair done the other day my lady told me I have a lot of new growth, so yeah!

Let the journey with hair loss begin!

Feb 15, 2011

Well, it's official, my hair is falling out.  I have faithfully used biotin and began using it at least 6 months prior to surgery, so I was hoping this wouldn't happen or at least wouldn't be as bad as it is.  I assumed it would be like hair loss after pregnancy, but it is much worse!  I will be glad when this time comes to an end.

BMI under 40!

Jan 14, 2011

Who-hoo!  Feels like I am getting somewhere.  I feel like I starting to recognize my old self again.  I can't believe I actually have collar bones again!  I am getting into clothes I haven't been able to wear and am feeling much better.  The only complication I have had so far is some numbness in my thighs and calves.  The surgeon has me taking Vit B1 and Potassium Glucosumate and if no improvement in 1 month, then back to see him again.  Hope this resolves soon.
Good luck to everyone out there.

Finally a goal met!

Dec 05, 2010

I got on the WII Fit today and I am under 300 lbs!  I have not been under 300 for at least the last 7 years, so this is huge!!! I know I am still huge, but getting smaller all of the time.
So far things are going pretty well.  I have not been sick and am back to work.  It seems like it is easier to stay on the eating and vitamin schedule when I am work then when I am off.  I know I get my protein in when I am working.  It is nice to be back to my routine.  We are crazy busy at work and a lot of people are out on stress leave, so I have to keep my energy up.

Hope everyone is doing well!

I am down 19 lbs!!!!  Yeah.  I go back in 2 weeks and hopefully this trend will continue.  So far things are going fairly well, I am drinking plenty of liquids, but still having a hard time getting in all of the protein.  I am so thankful I was able to have surgery.

Been home a few days now, surgery info and maybe TMI.

Oct 28, 2010

Had surgery on October 22ND.  Surgery was supposed to be at 1:30, but didn't happen until 4:30.  An emergency surgery had to take place before mine, so that didn't do much for my psyche.  They wheeled this woman next to me in her bed and she was saying how she was released from her gastric bypass and on the way home her stomach was swelling and she was having incredible pain.  She was brought via ambulance to the hospital.  Again hearing all this right before I am supposed to go in, wasn't the greatest and talk about having second thoughts!  They took her in and I believe they were going to to scope her to see what was up.  I hope everything with her turned out alright, she was certainly in my prayers.  I didn't end up backing out and had surgery!!!!  Friday night was some of the worst pain I have ever felt.  I have had 2 c-sections and a gall bladder removed and for day 1 pain, it took the award.  I take daily pain meds, so getting my pain under control was a bit difficult.  They ended up upping my morphine from 1 to 1.5 every ten minutes and then I was able to rest.  The next day was better and the morphine pump was definitely my friend.  I did walk in the wee hours of the morning and the nurse was telling me I was one of her most independent patients.  I would just get up, unplug everything and go, then plug myself back in again.  The evening of day 2 I ended up having some bm's.  Guess they were a bit concerned about bleeding internally as this is supposedly unusual.  Turned out it was old blood needing somewhere to go.  Figures I would be an overachiever in the BM department.  Well due to this and some extra nausea the surgeon kept me an extra day.  I guess better safe than sorry, but my back, neck, and shoulders were killing me from the hospital bed.  Made it home Monday afternoon and took measurements.  I know I should have done it before hand, but didn't have the time.  I have been doing OK with my liquids but have only been able to get down 1 protein drink/day, but I am working on it.  My husband made homemade chicken broth and that was really good.  I am getting around pretty good and should probably be napping more often than I am.
I was supposed to follow up with the surgeon today, but he called in sick and now I won't see him until next Thursday!!!  I guess that also means I can't even move to soft foods for another week.  I am not hungry, but some cottage cheese or eggs would be great just to have something with some substance.
This has been a long rambling post, but wanted to get something on here.

Very happy to be on the other side and would definitely do it again.  For any pre-op reading this, yes there was pain, but it goes away.

Why oh Why right now?!?!?!!??!

Oct 17, 2010

My preop appointment is scheduled for Tuesday and surgery is Friday......Can't believe how fast this time is approaching.  Now all the worry, all the questions, is RNY the right surgery for me are all going through my head.  I know my mind will settle down and I will feel calm again, but the newest worry is my kids.  I have a 7-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son who have both decided this would be the best time for them to get the flu.  They don't have a small cold, this is fever, caughing, runny nose, chest hurting ickiness.  Me being the mom I am, I am in their giving them comfort getting sneezed on, my sleeve being used for a napkin and then it really dawns on me, WHAT IF I GET THIS AND I AM TOO SICK FOR SURGERY?!?!?!?!?!?!  This too shall pass and I am sure Friday will roll around and I will be fine.  If the cold dosn't keep my company I am sure Aunt Flo will make her enterance while we are there.....................Just seems to be the day in my life.
