this is my diary from a few days before I had a gastric bypass

Below about this op
1. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RGB) This operation is the most common and successful combined procedure in the United States. First, the surgeon creates a small stomach pouch to restrict food intake. Next, a Y-shaped section of the small intestine is attached to the pouch to allow food to bypass the lower stomach, the duodenum (the first segment of the small intestine), and the first portion of the jejunum (the second segment of the small intestine). This reduces the amount of calories and nutrients the body absorbs.

12 January 2006 I am just 4 days away from surgery which I am having in brussels I am from the UK I am 46 years old and I have 2 children and 2 grandchildren and I am a foster carer I am 261lbs (18st9lb)bmi 51) at the moment and I cant wait to start my new life after surgery
Its not been easy my family and friends do not want me to have RNY they are worried and have watched a lot of things on tv about the bad side of it But I have done a lot of study on the subject which is how i found this web site.

14th Jan surgery on tues Every meal I have seems to feel like my last or so people keep pointing out. wish they would all stop worrying I have made my mind up months ago I dont think they thought I would go through with it but I am

15th Jan every time I look at the tv there is something on about obesity or weight loss surgery blimey I really need to get my Op over and done with roll on tues

24th Jan 2006 Well here I am 1 week out of surgery and feeling ok still a bit tender around the stomach They also removed my gall bladder because I had stones, I must admit it was more painfull than I thought and I was surprised that I can eat soft foods straight away on day 3 after surgery I ate some mash and fish in sauce only a couple of forks but it went down ok I am now upto half a 300g low fat meal and a spoon of pureed carrot much better than I thought Its wierd because my brain is still saying Val you eat more than this carry on but my stomach says otherwise I do still feel hungry when its time to eat. I have lost 14lbs this week but I have not eaten much this week

26 jANUARY Feeling great today I can walk stood up straight instead of stooped eating ok bowels ok so far so good need to get some photos up when i figure out how

30th January Still feeling brill so far I have never vomited I am trying different soft foods and nothing seems to disagree with me I have lost 17 lb so far I can drink a full cup of tea which I didnt think I would be able to I do still feel hungry thats never stopped but once I sit down to food it quickly goes away so far so good

7th Feburary 19lbs lost now I think its a bit slow concidering what I am eating my friend is on a diet and has lost 10lb without the surgery hope it comes off a bit quicker soon

16th Feburary 22lb lost 4wks out I have just eaten something that did not agree with me and it came straight back thats the first time thats happened (yuk) I think I got a bit cocky and forgot to chew properly I feel great I have just got a treadmill so I am building up slowly on that and I go back to work on sunday after five weeks off. People are starting to notice that I am losing weight so that is brilliant "I feeeel goood."

20th Feb Five weeks post Op 25lbs lost I lost 3lbs this week went back to work yesterday it went ok I still feel great

27TH Feburary Another 3lb this week (28lb) so now i have lost my first 2 stone 8 more to go my god that sounds bad! no that is bad well now I have traumatised myself I am going to get my breakfast no I better go on treadmill instead. type soon bye for now xxxx

5th March 4lb this week total 32lbs now I can really tell with my clothes I have had to get my trousers out that got to small just before christmas and people are not Recognising me thats not seen me for a while (there still looking for the whale) lolxxxxxxx

13th March 4lb again this week total lost is 36lb I am now 225lb (16st 1lb) I have had a tricky week this week tried eating some fast food like a mcdonalds beef deli roll I took the top off and just had a few bites of the beef and bottom roll but I was sick. then we took the kids ice skating that was a laugh I steped on the ice watched my sister inlaw fall and that was me off. while there I got a cheese burger because there was nothing else but that or chips (fries)ate half that hurt a bit but did not make me sick when we came home later that night got the kids a pizza tried a piece and that made me sick so no fast food for me. Back to basics because I am not eating enough so Sunday I had porrage for breakfast soup for lunch and lamb veg and mash for tea (safe)xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

20th march....Bit dissapointed today because I have not lost anything since last week dont know why?? still I have lost 36lb in 8 weeks so I cant complain it better move next weekxxxxxxxxxxx
I have worked out my first personal target its 149lbs which takes me out of the obese bracket so 76lb to go*********my ideal weight is 123lbs

29th March...3lb this week thats 39lb (15st12lb)happy with that I have a lot more energy now I went bowling on saturday and really enjoyed it my fingers fit in the holes this time, last time I went bowling I struggled with the ball because my fingers where to fat to fit in the holes haha*******

03 April...3lb thats 42lb (3 stone)I am made up clothes starting to hang off now but I want to lose a lot more before I start buying clothes I have lost a lot off my face and when I look in the mirror its like looking at someone else for a moment..lol....chuffed....I still have some clothes I grew out of that I can start to wear again....It just gets better..xxxxxxxx

10th April....Another 4lb off...yipee thats 46lb made up went through my wardrobe the other day and nothing fits! dont know if thats good or bad I didnt really want to start buying yet well I found a couple of things I can wear for a little while, "chuffed"yeh very yipee xxxxxxxxxxxx

18th April 1lb this week thats 47lb but I was out and about and ate a lot of rubbish only in small amounts but it must make a difference I had a night out with the girls from work I did not drink any alcohol but I still had a brill time and no hangover (even better)

24th April 3lb this week 50lb (3st8lb)pleased with that because I didnt feel I had lost anything this week I am full of a cold (feeling sorry for myself)weather is a bit better here and we have been out and about to the parks with the kids ive even been down the slide yipee******

7th May.. -5lb over two weeks (55lb)thats good as I have just been to my son and daughter inlaws in Germany for the week.

14th May 1lb not bad I have now lost (56lb)4 stones, a mile stone for me yipee.........

21stMay -3lb this week (59lb) Weather been hot for a change spent a lot of time in the garden with the kids haha ****

29th May -3lb again not bad eh (62lb)my clothes are all dropping off me now (bragg bragg)dont want to start buying yet.........

5th June - !lb this (63lb)week ate a lot of rubbish only small amounts of rubbish but it makes a diffrence*****

12 June -2lb (65lb) Went to a lovely wedding I ate and drank and enjoyed it very much and stayed over night it was in a posh place called Rookery hall (Its where posh and Becks had there engagement doo)

19th June -2lb (67lb) I am now in the 13 stones something I have not been there since my kids where in junior school to say I am thrilled is an under statement.......Lol



26th June -4lb (71lb) _5 stone 1 pound Wow I plod along losing a steady 2lbs then along comes a -4lb loss It must be my new job I now work over five days instead of three and where I was stood on a checkout I am now running around after kids hehe*****

3rd July -2lb this week(73lb) The weather is still hot I feel so comfortable in my shorts now and I am enjoying the nice weather My clothes have reached desperation point and I am going to have to buy from now on my stash of clothes that would not fit me have been worn and shrank out of (haha)..................(smileing)

10th July..-2lb (75lb) wow these 2lbs are steady. I have just been swimming in a costume I bought years ago I need a new one really but it will do for now. I had i big wow moment last week I bought 3 tops from Asda and Tesco (thrilled) I would of spent the same amount on one top before................

17th July....-5lb (80lb)(5st 10lbs) Dont know where thats come from! I have not really done anything different blimey that explains why my shorts was fitting ok then towards the end of this week seemed too big. Its six months today since my surgery I am so thrilled with how everything has gone and no regrets whatsoever, I can eat anything in small amounts I can (and do) go out for meals with my friends. happy days..............................


24th July.....stayed the same this week but thats no suprise after losing five last week and its my monthlys too Its funny but i have felt all week like I was not losing anything and had a feeling of being a little blouted so see what next week brings.......

31st July Well nothing again dont know whats happening I must be on one of them platues I read about all the time hope it does not last much longer its depressing after doing so well.......

7th Aug My stall is over I lost 3lb this week thats 83lbs thank goodness been away to wales for a couple of days with the kids had a nice time........

14thAugust...-1lb thats 84lb -6 stone thats brill its slowed down now but anything off is a bonus i feeeel goood xxx.........

21st August....-2lb this week -86lbs I am in my 7th month now and I defo have no regrets I eat pretty well but this week I have been feeling very hungry and I am in danger of over snacking so I have to find things to snack on other than crisps (which I love)I mean I have always felt hunger thats never stopped but I have been feeling it all the time this week. Need the kids to get back to school then I can go swimming again purley for excersise and not have to stay by the kids side....still smiling (:(:(:...........

4th Sept.... Wow a busy couple of weeks been away in a caravan for a couple of days in Blackpool with all the kids...(tired yawn)anyway when I got weighed last week I had put 2lb on(shock horror)I know I have been snacking this week I have lost 1lb of it so I have to pull my socks up and stop eating rubbish and get back to healthy eating...My nurse who moniters my weight loss is sending me to "changes" dietetic weight management group (cant wait) I can prob teach them a thing or two haha...

11th September.....Well I have lost the 2lb this week (87lb)got to work harder now and watch the snacks went to my sons in Germany last week did a lot of walking so thats why I lost 2lb this week........

18th September......A cool 2lb this week thats (89lb) cant wait to get my century award keeping the snacks at bay now (its hard
)....

25thSeptember.......-3lb this week thats(92lb) soon be 100 I hope. Its funny I am at the stage where people I have not seen for a while are standing and screaming when they see me they cant believe I look so different and say how much better I look its funny people never used to tell me how awful I looked before (haha)

9th Oct.....Well whats happening i dont know I put a pound back on then the week after I have stayed the same still doing plenty of walking so dont know why its slowed right down as I still have 44lb to go to get in to the normal bracket, I am going on the message board now to get some tips.......

30th Oct......-94lb... Lost 2lb last week stayed the same this week I think I will have to change what I am eating I eat a lot of cheese but its full of fat I know but I am concious of my protine so I eat what I know is full of protine. Meat and chicken I use for my main meals and cheese for lunch or breakfast (not everyday) I also eat a lot of eggs I try to limit my bread to no more than 2 slices of bread a day (god this is hard work) Excersise well I need to do more (yuk)I wish I could become a gym freak but alas that aint me so back to tread mill haha.........

6th November.........-96lb...lost 2 more lbs this week that will probably be it for a couple of weeks that seems to be the pattern lose a couple then nothing for a couple of weeks (wierd),,,,,,,,

20thNovember.......Wow well I lost 1lb last week then this week -4lb where did that come from that means I have lost 101lb (7st 3lb)I am thrilled to bits" feel great"want to shout I am a loser but they might get the wrong idea lol,,,,,,,,,,,,

14th December....I actually put 2lb back on last week dont know why but then this week I lost 4lbs I am temporary back working in fast food not good for me because I pick at the food (naughty) but I finish on christmas eve then go back into retail in January.....(103lbs) 7st5lb.........

2007

15th January 2007.....Well I had a lovely christmas I ate what I wanted (and what would fit) drank and enjoyed myself I stayed the same weight all over and this week I have lost 2lbs so I am happy with that because before my Op I could easy put a stone on over christmas.......(105lbs) 7st7lb.......... Also I am now in size 12 and 14 I am thrilled I have a new grandaughter Lexi born on 3rdJan 7lbs3oz. so I have been over to Germany to see her she is lovely I have put some pictures in my galleryxxxxxxxx




5th Feb.....I have lost 4lbs this week -(109lbs) -7st11lb...Ive started my new job at Wilkinsons and I love it it keeps me very active I dont need the gym this job is excersize enough lol......We took the kids on a train the other day it was great to see there faces they had never been on a train before they loved it we went for a walk around the arndale in Manchester its the first time I have been since it was blown up.xxxxxxxxxx

 

19thFeburary.......Another 4lbs this fortnight -(113lbs) -8st 3lb this job is certainly doing the trick I found muscles I didnt know I had I am feeling so much fitter there is no way I could of done this job before my weight loss..............what a feeling-----

 

 26th March.......loss -121lbs (8st 9lbs) I have been ill this week and in hospital for 3 nights on a drip to rehidrate me after 12 days of diarrhoea and 2 days of vomiting had myself and everyone else worried for a while the problem is not many doctors are familier with RNY so I was getting nowhere until one doctor in the hospital new somthing about it and decided that it was due to me having a seam in my intestine where they join them and snagging undigested food which gave me an infection so he has put me on a course of antibiotics and sent me home (thank god) so I will know if it happens again this is the last way I want to lose weight through illness I have lost 8lbs in the last couple of weeks so I am catching up on my eating now haha......

27th June.....07...Wow how time flys.... I am now at a weight I feel comfortable I now longer want to lose any more weight so I have just been maintaining my weight of 141lbs I am in size 10 and 12 clothes and I feel fine

18th January 08......Just a quick update as its 2 years since my surgery and Its still the best thing i could of done I have just maintained my weight over the last 12 months I eat ok I feel fine still cant over eat I would say I eat a normal amount to maintain my weight loss I still feel full which I never did before the surgery so If any one is still thinking about it go for it it will change your life..........

18th January 2009.......Wow its been a year since I updated my profile and things are still good I am still maintaining my weight and still have no regrets  lol
