To remove or not???

Nov 16, 2008

So I met with my surgeon last Tuesday.  After telling him all my complaints, and reviewing my workout schedule and what I was eating, it was concluded that perhaps the band just isn't for me.  He unfilled the 1cc I had left in my band (I was filled last July with 1.25cc) and gave me a few options: 1) remove the band; 2) replace the band with a newer version that is not supposed to get stuck as much; 3) replace the band with the new Realize band; 4) convert to RNY.  I went with option #1, and am currently scheduled for surgery on Friday, December 5th.  HOWEVER....I've been having my doubts.  WHY? Well since being unfilled I've been able to do EVERYTHING I complained about that I couldn't do for the past 8 months...which is a) EAT or drink breakfast (nothing...not for 3-4 hours after I woke up, not even water - I would get stuck on freaking water!); b) NOT get stuck on ANYTHING.  NOTHING.  I've tried it to the test - NOTHING gets stuck anymore...not even really dry chicken! and best of all c) I lost weight this week! I lost 4.2 pounds between Monday and Friday! I am SOOOOOOO happy with this unfill that it is making me think twice about having it removed.  Right now I'm worried that all is well NOW, but what about 2 months from now? 6 months from now? a year???? My husband unfortunately lost his job and we only have 7 more weeks of health insurance, then God only knows when he will have a job again with insurance...and if he gets it - who knows if it will cover this surgery or not?  He tells me not to worry, we'll pay for it ourselves if we have to - not to base my opinion of removing it ONLY on the insurance running out in 7 weeks.  So I'm a bit conflicted, but I'm wanting to see if this band will finally do what it was supposed to do!

Oh and by the way - have to share this lovely little tidbit...the nurse who I spoke with at my surgeon's office told me when I called two weeks ago complaining that I wasn't losing any weight, asked me how much I was eating - I told her about 1100-1200 calories a day.  She told me I was eating TOO MUCH! What, are we supposed to STARVE ourselves? Every nutritionist and doctor on Earth will tell you that starving your body does not help you lose weight! This just seemed like really bad  advice...so I'm glad I went to the doctor and spoke with him about it.

*~*~*~* Vampy, The Secret Santa Elf *~*~*~*

Nov 12, 2006

Well I have volunteered to be in charge of the Secret Santa and have received over EIGHTY names for the list!!! I've finalized my list and have e-mailed everyone who their recipient's name/address is.  If anyone has any questions about the Secret Santa, just send me an e-mail and I'll be sure to get back to you soon!

It is too late to get in on this year's Secret Santa...but there's always next year!!!

Weighed myself this morning! Woo hoo....down a few more pounds, bringing the total to 40 pounds gone!!! I'm beyond thrilled :)  Well, it's time to get dressed and head to the gym for a walk on the treadmill.  It's too cold to walk outside here.  I get to realy work out next week, when I will be 6 weeks post op, but for now the treadmill will do :)

No more sushi??? :(

Nov 06, 2006

Last night hubby took me to Benihana to have some mushy sushi.  Unfortunately, after one swallow of a half of a piece, it got STUCK in my throat - had an awful painful feeling and I ran to the bathroom in case it came back out.  I totally expected this to be my first sliming or pb episode...but it didn't turn out that way.  It was quite painful, but the pain subsided within minutes, and I returned to the sushi bar to finish sipping down some hot green tea and then after realizing everything was fine, I asked my sushi chef for some crab meat...plain...just crab meat.  Very mushy. Very yummy.  I ate it fine, but was very sad at the fact that I'm afraid I'll never be able to have sushi again :(  Sushi is my favorite food.  I can't imagine never having a sushi roll again.  My sushi chef saw how it upset me and offered a new recipe for next time I come in - he'll make a sushi 'salad' for me...no rice...no lettuce (even though he called it a salad)...he said it will be finely chopped ebi (cooked, not fried, shrimp); crab meat; cucumbers; and avacado.  Yum.  Sounds good.  He said we'll work around the rice, not to worry. Yay!!! Thank goodness for understanding sushi chefs! :)

Vampy a witch :)

Oct 31, 2006

Well Halloween has came and went, and no suprise...I was a good girl :)  I dressed up as a witch rather than my usual vampyre self as I couldn't find my custom-made fangs - darn it!!! I looked all over but my house is still in 'just moved in shambles' - ya know...moving boxes everywhere!!! So I came up with a sexy witch outfit that seemed to do the trick :)  I looked good and got a lot of positive comments from everyone at work who noticed my weight loss - man that is such a good feeling!!!!

After taking my daughter trick-or-treating we found she had tons of candy!!! I'm telling you the temptation was there - but my willpower has won!!!  I smelled my daughter's candy, but I didn't go any further.  It was tempting, but I'm doing too good at my weight loss so far to blow it over some candy.

I've uploaded a photo from work where several us participated in the costume contest at work.  Heh...vampy the sexy witch ;-)

God Bless Ruby Tuesday!!!!

Oct 30, 2006

Thank you so much Tina for telling me about Ruby Tuesday's crabcakes!!! I had it for dinner last night and it was completely wonderful!!! Mushy as heck and it filled me up with good ole protein! The remoulade sauce is spicy and I like it that way - woo hoo!!! I've been doing so well on my mushies :)

My teeth are feeling a lot better but I'm still unable to use the front teeth to chew, so I'm depending on my side teeth for that.

My sushi chef gave me some pickled white ginger to munch on whenever I felt nauseous (I love ginger!) and I have been doing so and guess what - NO NAUSEA!!!! I'm so thrilled :)

I go back to the dentist today - here's praying that he won't stir up that infection and cause me any more pain!!!!

No, no, no! No more nausea :(

Oct 25, 2006

Well my nausea attacked me yet again last night :(  Only, I think I'm the cause of it!  I didn't eat much yesterday.  I had a cup of soup for lunch and a sf jello for a snack, and when 9pm rolled around...that was it.  I started feeling nauseous about 5pm and stayed that way all night.  I eventually finished about 3/4 of an Atkins drink, but couldn't finish it.  When I woke up this morning, the nausea had me again.  I'm not eating enough.  I know that.  I wish I could eat...but the nausea keeps me from eating.  So I made a good effort this morning not to let the nausea get the best of me.  I had a cup of herbal tea for breakfast, and about an hour later I followed it with another Atkins drink.  Again, I could only finish about 3/4 of it...but hey, that's better than nothing!  I have a dentist appt. today to take care of two abscessed teeth that I previously had root canals on - they're are going to have to re-do the root canals! Lovely.  Guess I won't be eating later tonight either :-P

I love mushies!

Oct 23, 2006

Well my first weekend of mushies has came and went.  I was pretty good for the most part.  I had the egg drop soup on Friday which I wrote about earlier, and I had another bowl of the egg drop soup on Saturday night.  I mushed up a baked potato from Wendy's pretty good for my lunch on Saturday and Sunday (we were driving to/from New Orleans so my food choices were VERY limited while on the road).  No problems so far.  I've been eating/sipping slowly and have had no problems with food going down.  I even managed to drink an Atkins drink w/o the thought of getting sick because I DONT HAVE TO drink them, I CHOOSE to.  Big difference :)  Speaking of which.  It's lunchtime.  I have my first follow-up appt. with my surgeon today.  Time to drink my Atkins shake for lunch :)

Have I finally kicked nausea's @$$????!!!!

Oct 20, 2006

I have been fighting nausea off and on.  Some days I win, but most days I lose.  Today, however, I finally learned what was making me so sick! Apparently I've been drinking too much water at one time, and worse off, I've been drinking out of my Dasani bottle! Apparently you inhale a lot of air with your water when you drink out of a bottle - who woulda thought?! So I kicked the bottle to the curb, and am now sip-sip-sipping my way through cups.  Tiny sips.  No more gulps. Gulps make me sick.  Sips don't. Yay!

Another major accomplishment today - I have entered the mushy stage!!! FINALLY!!!! I am so thrilled - no more Atkins drinks for me for a while.  I'm so sick of those! LOL  Today, for my first mushy choice ever, I chose egg drop soup from my favorite Chinese restaurant.  It was SOOOOOO good, and soooooo filling.  Not too bad on calories, and a lot of protein - so yay me!!! I'm past the liquids stage, finally.  I thought I'd never get through it!!! :)

Ups and downs

Oct 18, 2006

Today was not a good day for me.  I felt bloated in my abdomen all this morning, and by noon I was having really bad pain near my port area (near my diaphram) and had difficulty breathing while sitting down.  It was better when I stood up, but not gone.  My boss sent me home early so I could get my pain medication and feel better.  It worked.  I took the pain medicine and felt better within 10-20 minutes.  I'm not eating (drinking really) hardly at all, and can barely get any water into me.  I'm not 'tight', but I just don't feel like drinking anything, as I'm sick of drinking stuff!!! I had a 1/2 of an Atkins drink for breakfast, a 1/2 bottle of Dasani ALL DAY, a 1/2 of a sf jello, and when I got home, I drank another 1/2 of the Atkins drink.  All in all, I hardly had anything.  My hubby felt bad for me and ran out to get my favorite food at this moment, the lobster bisque from Pappadeaux again :)  That hit the spot - I love that stuff.  Yes, it is extremely fattening, but it also has protein, and lots of it....so in a way, considering I've had maybe 500-600 calories in the last TWO days, I can spare a little fattening bisque.  I drank down a cup of the bisque and was full.  I was happy.  No more pain, and I ate something.  I even managed to drink down another 1/2 bottle of Dasani.

I pray this will get better for me, and soon.  I know I need to eat more, and get more protein, but for the life of me, I can't make myself do it.  I'm anxiously awaiting my mushy stage as hopefully things will improve as I will be given more options to eat.  Cross your fingers for me :)

Today is a good day :)

Oct 17, 2006

No nausea today - thank goodness!!! I'm feeling like my old self again - happy and not tired, and not even in pain - woo hoo!!!

I started off my day good by getting on my new fancy-schmancy scale that said the same weight 3 times in a row (that's a first! My crummy scale before it would say one thing, then +4 pounds, then -2 pounds, then +6 pounds, etc.) - and it AGAIN showed weight loss.  It seems that I am losing about 1-2 pounds a DAY.  Probably from lack of calories versus how many I burn.  I'm walking a lot (about 3 miles a day) which is helping.

I finally drank 2 Atkins drinks in a row.  They were making me sick just by thinking of them - but I don't mind them so much today - woo hoo! I've already gotten about 30g of protein today, and its only 1pm, so I have no doubt I will get to the minimum my surgeon requested - 60g.  That will be a change as I have not been getting my protein in (only about 5-15g a day) before because of the nausea I was dealing with.

Hopefully I've kicked this nausea to the curb :)  Still want some REAL food though...but the cravings aren't driving me nuts...well not today anyways ;-)
