An update

Mar 06, 2009

Well, I haven't posted in a while so I thought I would post an update.
I started off my recovery process after surgery on the Dec 19Th 2008 very bad, I broke the third metatarsal in my left foot. With being this close to surgery date my Doc would not allow my to use crutches unless I had too. I was forced to use a dang wheelchair for almost two months. I have read time and time again that the best thing for healing to get up and walk and stay active. This was not possible so I sat for around two months falling deeper into depression. I now have the cast off and have started working out at Planet Fitness. I am down 75 lbs since my surgery date and 103 lbs since October when my first surgery could not be completed. I am finally walking without a cane and without a limp. I seem to have stalled the last two weeks on weight loss but I'm confident this is a stall that everyone seems to encounter post op. My spirits are definitely rising and my energy levels have come back and gone thru the roof. Well, that is all and I'll try to post a little more often.

Complications

Oct 05, 2008

I was just informed my RISK level is a bit elevated for this surgery. The right side of my diaphragm stops working under "sustained exertion". Basically the right side of my Diaphragm gets hung up, thus I'm basically dropped to using one lung. I have seen Dr Owens in the same building as HSC. He seems to think my size is causing pressure on the Phrenic nerve, thus causing the issue and weight loss should resolve this. Just another one of those wonderful just in case warnings we keep signing off I guess.
