 Wow, it's been a while since I've been on this site.  It's been a year since my surgery and things are going fantastic.  I've lost 119 pounds so far and still losing.  Yes the weight loss has slowed somewhat but I'm thrilled that I made this decision a year ago.  I've had no complications and I would encourage anyone considering this surgery to DO IT!  I intend to reach my goal weight of 175 by the end of summer.  I have no doubt that I will accomplish this!  

I had my one month post op appointment on May 21st.  I weighed in at 298 on Dr. Suh's scale.  Not too shabby, I'd say - Before surgery on his scale I was 325 so that's down 26 lbs in one month! It's crazy, I tell ya!  Anyways, he said I can eat regular foods now and I was soooo thankful because I was going to go insane just eating the soft foods.  That evening after the appointment I went to El Pescadors restaurant in Upland and hung out with friends.  I ordered the shrimp tostada and it was so delish!  I didn't eat the crunchy tortilla - but the shrimp and veggies that were in it was sooo good! I've since tried other things to eat and so far no problems...still keeping the portions down to about 3 to 4 ounces and not gonna even try eating bread or rice cause those have always been a weakness of mine.  It's nice though that I don't even have cravings for that kind of stuff.  I've found that I'm eating just to fuel my body now rather than to fill a void...it's AWESOME!  I've been trying on some clothes that I've had in my closet for a while now..but could never fit in..and I'm finding that things are fitting now!  I should have had this surgery years ago!  Okay...I hope everyone is doing well! Will post again soon. Oh and I'll put up pics as soon as I take them.

So, my incisions have been healing nicely and its amazing to think that I had the surgery just a little over 2 weeks ago! I'm surviving on scrambled eggs, refried beans, mashed potatoes, muscle milk and tuna fish.  I'm having a bit of a hard time getting all my protein in but every day seems to get better.  Also, I've noticed that my water intake goes way more smoothly if I add a little crystal light to it.  Otherwise it kinda feels like a lump in my tummy. :) 

I go back to work in a week and a half and I'm not really looking forward to it!  ha ha not because of the surgery but because I'm loving being at home and enjoying doing what I want, when I want without having to have work get in the way!! Oh well, I'll have to deal with it and get back to the grind! 

I'll update again after my one month appointment.

Wow, it seems so surreal! I had my 1 week post-op appointment with Dr. Suh yesterday. He took out my staples - thank goodness and said I may move on to soft foods! I am so thrilled because I could take no more liquids only! So far each day that goes by it gets better and better.  I tried mashed potatoes yesterday. They went down well - no problems.  Today I had a scrambled egg.  Very good and no issues with my little pouch. I'm so glad I went forward with the surgery - although I will admit that a few days after the surgery I was having my doubts about getting this done! I thought to myself, what the hell did I do?? But now, I'm very happy that I followed through and are on a new path to being healthy!  On the 16th I weighed in with Dr Suh at 325.  Yesterday, the 28th, I weighed in at 314. :) 11 pounds down. I'd say that's pretty damn good for not feeling hungry!!

Yes, I had my last appointment with Dr. Suh and did my pre-op admitting today.  I have to get labs done tomorrow and then off to surgery on Tuesday morning!  My surgery is scheduled for 730 and I have to be there at  6 am! Yipee, I'll be on the losers bench next week!  It's taken so long it's hard to believe that it's actually really gonna happen.  I'm excited!

So I got an email from Michele today that advised I am tentatively scheduled for April 21, 2009!  I'm so excited but nervous too.  I can't believe that next week at this time I'll be recovering in my hospital room!  So much to do still and sooooo little time! :)

So shortly after my last blog post I contacted Dr. Suh's office again and talked to Michelle.  She said she was still waiting on med clearance regarding my ekg and my abdominal ultrasound.  I actually faxed my PCP this time with a copy of the email I got from Michelle.  I asked them to confirm Dr. Suh's fax number and to please send the reports over to Dr. Suh's office ASAP!  Last week I got another email from Michelle telling me that Dr. Suh cleared me for surgery and she will send over the request for authorization to my PCP right away.  She asked when I will be ready for surgery.  I was thrilled! FINALLY! So I gave Michelle some preferred dates for my surgery and she said it takes about 7 to 10 days to get authorization.  Hopefully I'll have a surgery date next week - the sooner the better!  I'll post again when I hear something from Dr. Suh's office.

I called my pcp on Monday to see what's happening with my GBS.  I found that Dr Suh's office needed a copy of my psyche eval and my pcp's nurse told me that the psyche didn't have anything on me.  Well, I checked my records, called the nurse back and told her the exact date, time and which doctor I saw.  So I called my pcp again today to see if she has everything now.  I was told that yes, they found the psyche and faxed everything over this morning.  I called Dr. Suh's office and Michelle told me that they are waiting on the ekg clearance and the abdominal ultrasound report.  What???  I called my pcp's office again and talked to lucine.  She told me that Dr. Suh's office said they had everything and that she checked all the reports and everything was faxed over.  She said she would give Michelle a call to make sure they have everything they need - DEAR GOD I HOPE THEY FINALLY DO!  It's getting very frustrating because I thought I'd have this surgery way long time ago...like back in October 2008!!  Anyways, patience is a virtue...and I'll get my surgery date soon enough.  I will call Dr. Suh's office again on Friday to double check to make sure they have everything now!! So, I'll write again when I have an update. :)

Got a call from the Cardiology Dept at BMG.  Got my echocardiogram scheduled.  I'll get that done on the 24th of February. I'll be glad to get it done because it'll be the last test I need for the surgery.  I called Dr. Suh's office and they haven't received any reports from my doctor.  I'll give her a call on Monday to make sure all the test results get faxed over to Dr. Suh's office.

So I saw my PCP today for an EKG, Chest X-rays and more labwork.  The only test I have left is the echocardiogram.  According to my PCP, the cardiology department will call me to schedule that one.  She also advised that I call them in about a week to make sure they've submitted all the information to Dr. Suh.  I have the Patient Education Class on the 12th so I'll call on that day to find out if Dr. Suh has everything and to get some idea as to when he can schedule surgery.  It feels like it's taking forever to get all of this stuff done and I really just want to get the surgery done so I can start on my way to HEALTH! :)
